A lot of people dismiss Brett Cooper as a female Ben Shapiro, and while there's a tiny bit of truth in that, I think there's a larger story here about how these right wing media figures take shape, and what it says about our desire for authenticity.

This video is really just a brief exploration of the idea, and some reflecting on how operating in this YouTube space incentivizes the performance of authenticity for financial gain. Something sadly not unique to being a political talking head.

As Jenny Nicholson's video essays usually are, it is rather light on politics (in comparison to other stuff posted on Ghazi), but this video is perhaps a near-perfect showcase of out-of-touch executives bungling what should have been a easy success.

The framework of “[cis character] must pretend to be [“opposite” gender] before restoring their [femininity or masculinity]” invites biological determinism by making the plot’s stakes dependent on the successful concealment of the main character’s “true” (here, meaning “assigned-at-birth”) gender. The idea of a “true” biological gender is itself a transphobic trope that does harm to the gender-nonconforming communities that genderbending manga purports to represent.
