how tf they manage to get permits to build a building like that in a town where the rest of the buildings are drab and boring as tits?

LEGO and the airport, are maybe the only reasons this city is thriving really. My guess is that LEGO can more or less ask for whatever they want and Billund will (after some symbolic consideration) allow it

When I recently visited Lego Land, I was surprised by how near the airport's takeoff and landing zone is to the park's main areas. Probably rare to get this close to aircraft anywhere other than an actual airport.
