Huh. Crazy how all the violence has been perpetrated by Republicans. Almost as if there is hatefilled media driven messaging they are constantly exposed to and consume.

All Republicans including the guy who shot at Trump!

[–] [email protected] 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Have Trump or allies come out to declare him a RINO yet?

[–] [email protected] 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well, they have already claimed that it was a hit ordered by Biden...

[–] [email protected] 30 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Which is now perfectly legal so what's their problem?

Those rules were not meant for the current president! /s

You say that sarcastically, But I'll put 10 to 1 odds that at least one Republican lawmaker seriously makes that suggestion, and at least even money that says this Supreme Court would actually uphold it if it were to make it to court.

I say it sarcastically, but not without a hint of truth behind it. With the current political leanings of the Supreme Court, if Biden ever tried to off a political opponent as an official act, they would probably call for him to be impeached and hung for treason. If a republican did it, they would likely throw a pizza party and declare the act a necessity to preserve American politics.

It wasn't much of anything being said, but I'm glad he ran the list of the more prominent acts of violence coming from the right before mentioning Trump.

Thank you for sharing the quick summary of the event!

"The attempt on my life has left me scarred and deformed, but I assure you my resolve has never been stronger." ~~Supreme Chancellor~~ Trump on next speech

Good to see megathreads again

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I personally hate mega threads. It fucks with front page algorithms. Sometimes I'm not even aware of large events because I didn't know there was a mega thread on a specific community that you might not see if you're just looking at your front page, depending on how late the mega thread gets to the scene. Or newer articles with additional detail revitalizing the discussion under a new post.

I would rather comb through a couple threads, which tend to have some subtly different angles on the overall discussion.

But I think I'm in the minority.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Lemmy's "active" sort involves recent comments AFAIK, so if you're sorting by that you should see megathreads.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

I don't know if the algorithm has been tuned better, but I have totally missed big events until someone has directly mentioned it to me, because of mega threads. I suspect it may because the initial burst of community participation may happen in the first couple threads, and by the time a mod comes in and either uses an existing one as a mega thread, or starts a new thread, the participation has waned, so minor stories rise above.

I heard, by mouth, that Trump had been shot about an hour after it happened. It was no where on my front page, either "Active" or "Top Six Hours". I had to go to the News community directly to find it.

Next one is coming tomorrow for the Republican Convention.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

Where everyone is going to pay attention. Because he's coming back from the shot.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

He should have fucking LAID INTO Republicans. They've been publicly inciting political violence for nearly a decade now and THIS is the result. It's their fault and the only redeeming feature was that this was an own goal. We're all lucky they haven't attacked Democratic politicians yet.

Violent Republican rhetoric is not acceptable. If they don't stop NOW this is only the beginning. Let out Dark Brandon and let them hear the fucking truth instead of this weak "violence isn't acceptable" shit. Of course violence isn't acceptable, we're the party of "violence isn't acceptable". Republicans should stop inciting political violence and maybe this would stop. Trump has even promised a secretary of retribution and half of the list is OTHER Republicans. It's no surprise the people attacking him are other Republicans.

I mean. They fucking laughed hammer smashed face, incite violence and then blame Democrats when it's literally all their fault
