It is capitalism, not economistism or whatever. Capital decides fate of the economy, not economists or government. Economists only advise government what to do, their advices are only advices and in this status quo they can be ignored by presidents. And capital is not highly trained proffesional who knows what they are doing like a doctor (see Elon Musk) most likely they inherited that wealth. Even if they are, extremely rich people did not gather their wealth by being charitable, they are probably most greedy people and they will only act according to their interests

new site tagline lmao

I don't think I have seen all three at once before.

Gee, it sure sounds like an appeal that the abductor would use to try to leverage a hostage situation. "You wouldn't want them to get hurt... would you?"

Beyond the absurdity of using a hospital patient as a metaphor, it also serves to ridicule it's own position: A hospital patient is dying, you the doctor offer to save the patient by giving them medicine. This person ridicules you for even trying and casts you as a murderer if you fail.

This argument is also projecting. It casts the socialist as not knowing what they are doing by messing with "levers that no one could possibly understand". Yet the post implies that those unknowable levers are a perfect analogue to a patient who is hooked up to what is clearly an understandable apparatus of life support. It sounds like the argument doesn't not in fact know what those nebulous levers are, yet describes the socialist position as clueless to the "complexity of society".

Better not try to fix the dying machine. It's death is certain, but trying to save it is uncertain, and that's too scary.

This has already been said, but it cannot be emphasized enough that neoliberalism fits perfectly into this metaphor as the health insurance company wedging itself in as a middle-man to leech off of everyone and decide on its whims and margins who lives and dies based on who it wants to throw scraps to. Ownership is not a job and the proletariat's being sustained is not predicated on them not owning things, either in common or divided amongst them, but rather having a few ghouls claim private ownership over every inch of land and every miligram of raw material on the planet.

We let economists fuck with society, yet they're not sociologists shrug-outta-hecks

my ADHD ridden ass: yes-comm

If that switch is on I'm flipping it off. If that lever is off I'm turning it on. If there's a big red button you can be damn sure I'm pressing it twice.

Because this country just kind of irredeemably sucks ass in general and I unironically actually would rather cause a catastrophic collapse that kills millions than sit here and try to live with this garbage for another however many years i've got. Besides, what gives all the other people who do just that their license to do so?

The reason socialism doesn’t work is because it inevitably causes people to start eating babies and smothering patients in hospital beds. It makes sense though because this is what Marx wanted. Anyone who pretends otherwise is simply unable to understand Econ 101

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

If the baby eaters were socially encouraged and paid to eat babies the free market would determine the correct number of babies to eat and all would be well morshupls

Come on, the OP has to be a troll. Here's one of their comments, I refuse to believe anyone is actually this far gone

Levers and screws are types of "machine" and they exist in nature. Machines don't have to be designed.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They are probably referring to "Simple Machines": Lever, inclined plane, pulley, wedge, wheel, screw.

It's a science class thing, like I think it was that "all complex" mechanical machines are made of those basic components.

Not saying they aren't still crazy, but that's probably what they meant.

I mean, there are some machines that are made by happenstance in nature. For example there is a natural nuclear reactor in Gabon, formed by natural processes.

i am, in fact, a democratically-licensed economist and memeographer

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

but instead of a doctor it's Elon Musk

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Meanwhile, billionaire "disruptive innovators" are sending minions to strip copper from the hospitals walls whole taking pill cocktails from the pharmacy while looting it and are praised for "taking risks" and are subsidized.
