Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

Hey all,

I'm looking for recommendations for a relatively affordable, ultra high capacity, 3.5" HDD. The one listed below that seems to fit the bill is the WD 22TB Gold. I know there are some enterprise level HDDs in the $40k range but thats far outside my budget.

The thing I'm not sure about is stability. I've had WD portable HDDs fail on me before, so, honestly, I'm not a huge fan. There were mitigating factors which could have played a part so I'm willing to listen to the crowd. I do like Seagate. I've only used thair SDDs, though, so it's apples and oranges.

Stability, Largest capacity, Price.

This is for backup but it really needs to be reliable.

Thoughts?
