I hate apple tv with a passion

their app sucks so bad, if you switch it on all the other apps are subsumed and you lose a lot of functions

If you search in their app they will always give the most expensive option or say what you want doesn't exist.

the controller also sucks

I’d rather use Apple TV than Stan any day of the week.

Or just acquire content from both and use Plex

You can train another remote to work. There's an option in the settings.

I have suggested that, husband was angry saying it's because I'm a luddite/old/stupid. ( No, the controller sucks. )

I would actually recommend replacing more than the controller. Look at one of these - Shield TV - this is the newer version, but I've had one since about 2018 and it hasn't missed a beat.

Agreed. Android boxes are way cheaper. I’m still using a 4 year old mibox s and it works great with the usual streaming apps. The only benefit appletv has is if you want to use airplay or whatever it’s called. I have an iPhone and can still stream Spotify to android with no issues.
