Such bullshit, the cops can fuck right off.
Also, all the media outlets I've seen are reporting the event on the 7th as a "rally" or "protest", when it's a candlelit vigil. You can argue that it makes no difference from a public safety perspective, but for many people it would colour their perception of the event. Why haven't the media mentioned it in their reporting? This headline doesn't even mention the rally on the 6th, which is the main rally and march.
Where do you get that info? I'm trying to find but searching online just gives me zionist news like abc and so on. I imagine it's all on facebook which I don't use. Even searching on lemmy I only find news about the conflict. I imagine mods don't allow support for protests, even though I thought lemmy would be the ideal place to post about this.
I thought of making a topic about it but i fear i might just get banned, since my previous post against military wasn't exactly well received.
Anyway, do you know where it will be?
Thanks for the info. Though what I wanted to post was asking about the protests, which zero_gravitas answered.
Most Australian Palestine activist groups seem to use Instagram as their main channel for announcements.
Here's the Instagram account for Palestine Action Group Sydney which has details for their upcoming events: https://www.instagram.com/palestineactiongroup/
Many events are aggregated on the APAN (Australian Palestine Advocacy Network) website, but many are also left off it: https://apan.org.au/events
The APAN site also has a list of local groups, but again I'd caution that it's not a complete list: https://apan.org.au/local-groups/
I don't think this is true of the mods on this instance, but they might not want it in certain communities. Probably the individual city comms (e.g. [email protected] ) are the best place for posting about upcoming rallies, or maybe [email protected] ? So long as it's not an overwhelming amount of posts that's drowning out everything else I wouldn't expect the mods to have a problem with it.
People responded strongly in the comments there, but from what I've seen I doubt the mods/admins thought you were breaking any rules or doing anything bannable.
You can probably just message the mods and ask, they don't bite 🙂
I wish I could do something about people using facebook/instagram.... What I can see is very limited. But thanks a lot! From the thumbnails I got the location. I will try to go. The APAN website seems to have better info. I saw that website before but got confused. There are many websites and it's hard to tell what's more "official".
Regarding posting here, I don't have the energy for that. I learned a lot from the last post, but it's very exhausting when I have a polemic opinion and I get a bunch of people against me. And like a guy said there, I may just be the problem. Either way with the links you gave me I now know where to look. So thanks again!
No worries!
Also, the location for this Sunday's rally has changed (negotiated with police this afternoon). It will now be at Hyde Park (still 1pm Sunday).
