Last time I went in a vegetables shop I only took a peach. I think the owner thought something similar of me, because he told me I didn't need to pay.

Vegetables are a portmanteau of vegetation and table, as they are vegetarian for the table.

All fruits are vegetation for the table, or vegetables. It's just that not all vegetables are fruits.
