I put a job on airtasker for someone to remove my pile of rose prunings, but apparently that is going to cost way more than I expected. So I'm buying a second hand mulcher this morning and will instead obliterate them into little bits to be buried at the bottom of the new vegie garden beds.

That mulcher may be a huge benefit to your garden. I couldn't live without mine. Does wonders for soil condition.

It should help. I have had a mulcher before that didn't work that well and tended to clog, this one is a different style (it is a crusher rather than blades) that is supposed to work better for dry twigs etc. rather than leafy waste. The leafy stuff I can just run over with the lawnmower anyway, it's the twigs I need a mulcher for so hopefully I'll have better results.

be careful of any thorns , maybe slice them off before mulching

There are billions of thorns. I expect the mulch to be quite prickly, which is why I'm going to bury it. Hopefully I can manage the process with less bloodshed than was incurred cutting the thing down. At least it doesn't have it's kikuyu ally for protection this time.🙂

One of the lowest end... Ozito silent shredder. From the reviews it should work pretty well as long as you don't try and put through green leafy stuff which just clogs it up.

Yeah silent shredders are basically just crimpers. Great for lengths that splinter, crap for everything else

I've just been testing it out on some previously cut branches, it's doing an amazing job, chomping through branches I expected to be way too big. I can see that it would be a mess if you tried to put fresh leafy stuff through, it would just clog up. But dried sticks it is handling like a champion. It's quite big pieces, more like wood chips than a fine mulch.

Mmm, hand mulch... 😋

I love my chipper/mulcher. The green bin only goes out for fucking piece of shit yukka leaves... which'll clog the mechanisms. Fuck I hate yukkas.
