It's not like $20/ hr is even that much money - ~40k a year probably won't even qualify you to rent an apartment most places anyone wants to live.

God it’s so wild. When I was a teenager $20/hour was good money. That’s just 20 years ago. Now it’s impossible to live on that wage in my area.

Yeah, doing some quick math, if the rental wants 3x the rent in income to qualify and you make $40k, you're at best going to be able to qualify for something that runs ~$1100. That's a really crappy 1-bedroom in my medium-sized FL city if you're really lucky.

1100 is the floor for a shitty 1 bed in my city.

Someone that has a teenager who needs their own room is going to pay no less than $1650 according to the Zillow search I just did.
