We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

I’ve always found the 10-15 tb external Hdd less expensive than internal ones.
I’ve bought so many externals and just take them out the enclosure before being used and install into my computer , I never understood why it’s more expensive to get a single internal hdd the exact same hard drive wrapped in plastic enclosure and using a usb pass board plus a wall charger is less expensive..
Last time I shucked some drives people recommended all over, I had 4/5 drive be SMR and never got the performance I needed. Wasted so much money on that project...
