Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

Hi folks,

I'm not sure what it is i need exactly, so hoping someone can point me in rhe right direction.

In my job, I often receive CDs with large files on them -- think medical records with MRI images etc. I need to copy the files from each cd onto my computer, upload to the work server, and burn a copy of the cd to mail out.

Looking for a piece of hardware to help streamline these tasks...I see standalone cd copiers, but those don't let me connect to the pc.

Is there some version of the above that functions both as a cd copier (two disk drives, one for original one for blank) and will also connect to my pc with a USB cable so that I can easily drag/drop the CD files in file explorer, to upload to our work server?

Much appreciated, happy to clarify if more info is needed!

I'd be surprised if you'd be legally allowed to handle such data with any of the programs suggested here. It'd be best if you reached out to whoever is responsible in your department.
