Hey there,

I'm looking for an access point with

  • 6e standard
  • 2.5gbe
  • Multiple SSIDs, with VLANs tagged

This is for a home network, one 1bdr apartment. I'm doing hobby self-hosting and a bit of homelabbing, but wifi is mainly for personal use.

I'm running one of those 4x2.5gbe x86 chinese routers, it's running OPNSense virtualised on Proxmox (before anyone tut-tuts me I know the risk :)).

My net speed is serviceable, but certainly not gigabit - it's 400/50.

WiFi is currently running off an Asus rt-68u running merlin. I'll eventually get a 2.5gbe switch, but the ports on the router have been sufficient so far - less critical devices are running on unmanaged gigabit switches.

I know that 2.5gbe is probably not bang for buck considering my use case, but shit - most of my devices already support it, might as well shoot to get wifi there too. I'm looking to ""future" "proof"" my wifi for the next 5-10y, so I'm happy to pay for it - but I'm also ready to accept if a compromise is an obviously better choice.

I've tried searching the sub and google but not finding clear answers...

  • TP link EAP670 $200AUD has 2.5gbe but is only wifi 6 - BUT it's on sale.

  • TP link 660HD $300AUD has 6e but doesn't have 2.5GBE -

  • Ubiquiti U6 enterprise $500 - has everything I want, but sheesh that's double the TP Links for not a whole lot more

you dont need 6E, most likely. Get the EAP670.

(that being said, you probably dont need 2.5Gbe either)
