Depends. If it's satire, then it's referencing an actual event in recent US news where a kid was shot for ringing the doorbell.

Don't forget about the girl who was murdered in upstate New York because her friend took a wrong turn down a long driveway that looked like a street.

If we count teens, I can think of two in the last few years. Thankfully, only half of those were racially motivated. Go America.
