It seems like the FOSS community is continuing to grow, and FOSS apps keep getting better (Immich reallh blew my mind recently), which is a big win ๐Ÿ˜Ž but there are still many apps I use that I would kill for an open source alternative. I am curious what you guys think? Are there any apps you'd love alternatives for?

Technically this exists, right? It's just matrix with a bunch of bridges?

The app is closed source, deprived from element.

Right it doesn't exist because its closed source. That's why I said wanted an open source alternative

Correct me if I'm wrong but Matrix and it's bridges are open source and the FOSS version of Beeper. Beeper just took it, closed sourced it and made it convenient for normies to use...

This is correct.

Okay, just clarifying that you don't mean the Beeper server, you mean the beeper desktop/mobile client. You can self host something identical to the server and use a the client that Beeper's client is based off of, which is very similar.

Self-hosting may become even more like using Beeper's server and client soon, as I expect they will not continue development on the old android app and just work on the one currently in beta. The beta app feels pretty similar to element to me, so I'll likely self host when they do that.
