This whole graph is wack except friend's dog.

Seriously... a dog is not 80% the effort of a horse. It's not even 10%
Maybe its a log scale?
Dog scale
Indeed all sorts of things are off... I have to assume that ferrets are at least as much fun as cats... And then to claim the cats and dogs (and most other animals) are on the same line of effort vs fun?
Cats are waay less effort than dogs, do you have to walk your cat every day? No.
You feed cats, let them in and out to poop, what else is there to do?
Dogs, dogs are great, but they're needy, they want constant attention, know how to whine, bark, beg, eat lots more. Dogs are waay more effort than cats.
This chart should be titled "Chart with multiple things wrong with it"... Then to claim it's official on top of all this.
let them in and out to poop
:concerned face:
Right? Cats are very low effort. They can basically live on their own and have a good habit of staying clean and only pooping in the litterbox. Chances are they'll either be sleeping or lazing around the house. Putting them next to dogs which need WAY more attention is off.
Okay Lemmy, this is a reddit post and it's horribly wrong (naturally). Can we fix it?
Tropical fish and cats being the same effort is absolute madness.
Have you tried setting up a saltwater aquarium? I cry just watching tutorials.
Even freshwater tropical fish can be a PITA.
Wait until you pay the credit card bill it all went on! Ongoing maintenance is not too costly, but the initial set up is easily $1000+. And that does not include the fish, live rock, invertebrate, etc. I have no regrets starting a saltwater aquarium (I started it in 2010), but I needed to be at a place in my life/career where that was feasible.
Goldfish require a ton of effort. They need huge tanks, water filtration systems, chemical balancing (nitrate buildup can kill them pretty quickly), and regularly scheduled feeding times. Dogs on the other hand just need to be taken outside every few hours and fed two or three times a day on top of the occasional vet visit.
Not if you stick em in a bowl and let them die in a few months.
Yeah, all that stuff about filtration systems and big tanks sounds way more expensive than just buying a new goldfish every couple of months.
Fortunately I don't see too many people sticking dogs in bowls.
Am I owning cats wrong? Cats are easy as fuck. You just take care of Vet/Food/Poop they do the rest
Hell yeah cats are a piece of cake to look after. You can't completely neglect them but they do largely take care of themselves.
You forgot about the pet rock
Cats should swap place with parakeets on the effort axis. Salt water fish should be higher effort than babies.
Why your cat so far to the right? They are a lot easier to look after than dogs. You have to walk dogs 53 times a day or at least they think so.
The cat doesn't care, a good day for a cat is when they spend 75% of the time on your bed.
I'm gonna go ahead and say the scale is logarithmic, because the jumps from cat to dog to baby/horse to dragon are all depicted about the same and are definitely not
The snake is way too low on the fun factor. Just try letting it out when everybody's at the house drinking, and watch the hi-jinx!
I have a friend who’s gotten into hermit crab rescue with his wife, and if you’re only expending the effort shown on this chart, congratulations you’re an abusive pet owner.
Somebody's never had a goldfish, I see
so for some reason 'sea monkeys' triggered a giggling fit to tears
Where is rock?
The scale on this graph cant be accurate.
Its not a similar jump in effot between a parakeet and a cat as a cat and a horse.
Perhaps it's logarithmic. Which makes the magnification needed to see sea monkeys even more impressive.
I'm pretty sure birds take way more effort than dogs and cats.
I'm pretty sure, as a dog owner that ferrets are both more effort and more work than a dog.
Nice idea but this graph is just wrong
Parakeets lower than rabbits and cats all the way to the right, to the right of ferrets?? Did this author ever even have pets? Or met animals?
Can confirm. My brothers dog is my best buddy and all I do is play fetch, give him treats and scritches.
That thing depicted there looks like a 7-9mo old baby. That's when things get fun, but still a lot of effort.
12-16m is when shit gets real. theyre mobile.
Bunnies are the best!
But not really less effort than a cat unless you just keep them in a cage, which you shouldn't do. We had a house rabbit, and I really loved it, but rabbits like to (need to) chew, and bunny-proofing your home is a huge pain. But otherwise they're kind of similar: easy to litter train, very individual personalities, etc.
Mine have that oxbow compressed hay house! I find packing tape on corners they like to chew on stops then from doing so
Good ideas, but probably not adequate for things like electrical cords.
Fixed version:
parakeets should be up there with dragons
My bird yelling at me for 3 hours because he’s jealous I looked at my other bird for a second
Damn I wish I had a dragon to ravage the world with
I found the odd one out: tamagotchis aren't pets, they aren't even real
Neither are dragons.
Parakeets are also on there and they're not real either.
Not exactly. They are governmental drones but as such a very real threat
Pay no attention to my downvote I just think its funny to argue they are real.
Kindly request we add chickens.
I think it would be equal fun as ferrets but the effort of a cat.
