Good for her? 🤷‍♂️

TLDR For non-US context: she's been nominated for a bunch of Grammies for country music, so she's presumably talented and people in the US know who she is.

Her performance is being called the new worst of all time (something people have ridiculed Fergie for since her performance in 2018, because they care about national anthems over there) but now she's in rehab for alcoholism, so that explains it.

Just a side note, I live in the US and neither me nor anyone I know had any idea who she was. I had to look her up after I saw the headlines. Of course, I don’t really listen to ‘country’ so YMMV.

Edit: Also don’t care about the National Anthem but you’re right a lot of people do.

People forgot about Rosanne’s performance?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

In this video they say that even Rosanne wasn't as bad 🙈

I did, mostly because I don't think about Roseanne or the national anthem unless they're in the news.

Rosanne is a comedian and actress, and has never been known for singing, singer performance was terrible, but people realized she shouldn't have been up there anyway.

Francis Scott Key wrote the lyrics but the tune is actually from a drinking song, that's why it is the way it is at the end.

If you're not singing it drunk, you're doing it wrong.

I made it to rocket's red glare, anyone else make it further?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

A couple of seconds longer. l definitely didn't want to stick around to find out what that final note was going to sound like.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 months ago

I would also have to be drugged before I sang that song.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 months ago

Completely appropriate. Well done.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Country singer Ingrid Andress has apologised and admitted being drunk while performing a much-derided rendition of the US national anthem, at a baseball stadium.Andress's erratic performance of The Star-Spangled Banner was widely shared after Major League Baseball's Home Run Derby, in Texas, on Monday.

"I was drunk last night," wrote Andress, external, who has previously received four Grammy Award nominations.

"Andress's a-capella version of the anthem was called "painful" and "one of the worst national-anthem renditions ever", on social media. The Daily Beast headline said: "America unites over new all-time worst national-anthem performance."

Some people posted clips of Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm apparently smirking as Andress was singing. But she also received sympathy and support following her apology.

"Country star Martina McBride said: "Sending lots of love and positivity.

"And one fan posted a video of Andress on stage at a concert, external, to show her "true talent".Andress appeared as an a-cappella singer on NBC series The Sing-Off, in 2010 - and after forging a solo career, was nominated for the 2021 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. She also co-wrote Charli XCX’s hit song Boys and Bebe Rexha’s Girl in the Mirror.
