Bilbo thought it was a cool adventure. The dragon was no accident, it was anticipated

In the book, he and Gandalf were planning the party for months. The whole thing was his plan from the beginning.
No joke, I just got to the part in the Andy Serkis narrated audiobook where Gandalf returns to toss the ring into the fire(place).
Bilbo even comes out to announce that the dragon means supper is being served and the 144 people that get to sit inside the big tent should come on in.
My dumbass just now realizing he chose 144 because it's a dozen dozen instead of Bilbo being random:
He chose it because if you add his 111 years to Frodo's 33, you get 144 or "one gross dozen" although to refer to the gathered hobits as a "gross" would be rude indeed! (more book references for those who haven't read them)
One might even say long-expected.

That's one way to describe a burglar who came with a group to kill and plunder. And succeeded in both without major troubles.
I think they had a few troubles along the way
We had troubles, yes. But what about second troubles?
Concerned Irish noises
Okay, that is a beautiful meme
Exactly!
Tho some people did go shish kebab. But thats not important right now.
without major troubles
Fili and Kili might feel otherwise.
I believe they both died after the Mountain and the Smaug part, so not really relevant.
Gandalf was going to tell a tale about Bilbo's life during the party, and Middle Earth doesn't have slide projectors.
Right! Bilbo spent all these years telling the Shire about how scary the dragon was, but for his birthday he got Gandalf to simulate the dragon for everyone.
i feel like "does he not like bilbo?" can basically sum up gandalf's actions in the hobbit more generally
“You look like a thief, mind if I invite all my friends to a party in your house? You know what, I’m doing it anyway!”
A wizard does not hate, nor does he love. He feels precisely the way he means to.
He brought it because that's what Bilbo asked him to do
The real question is, with all these awesome drone displays, why has no one replicated it IRL?
The dragon died and they’re celebrating Bilbo’s robbery and outwitting of Smaug.
A cruel jape!
Who tf would like Bilbo?
He just wanted his precious.
It came with the firework pack he bought across the border of the shire.
