I went through this a bit ago. The calibration of your pace is set during an outdoor run. Try and do one or two outdoor runs at the same pace as the treadmill and it should adjust.

Sadly I don’t think there’s a way. Apple uses the step counter to track distance, I remember finding this out cause a long time ago someone asked if it was possible to force the watch to use gps when running or something like that to track distance and it wasn’t possible
