Archived roms are not available, so there might be some truth in suspicions about publishers being involved...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

I think publishers were involved but those services are the lowest priority so I wouldn’t look into it that much.

I'm shocked, but not surprised... if that makes sense. Just checked a few of the common sources and they have no more Roms to download. Besides one source so far. I'm so glad to gone through all the trouble and local achievement the last couple of years. Now its the time to do your local backups on USB hard drives, as you don't know what will happen next.

Oh shit I don't have neogeo

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It'll be okay. I remember panicking years ago when they attacked other ROM sites. The games will go back up. Maybe in another location, but they always go back up. They cut off one head and another two grow back

Good point.

So, now I have generations 1-4 + GBA basically. Gen 5 will.be an issue because those damn filesizes.

I've done what I can

I've really wanted to one day go grab a personal collection like that for myself.

I also saw that you can download the entirety of Wikipedia, and it doesn't take up too much space either. I think it was a post made here the other day? I thought that was pretty cool. So much knowledge at ones disposal

How do I do that? It sounds like a great idea

I can't find the original post, but I did a Google search and found this.

I haven't tried it yet, but there might be a better or easier way!

Ok, sorry, stupid here: what are archived roms?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There was some Nintendo, Sega, etc. "backups" available.

Last time I checked, those had been made inaccessible before the recent hacking attacks.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They were accessible for logged in users at least a week before the hack.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Interesting. I wasn't logged in, so I didn't know.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Confirming they were available the day before!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

They're still available on the big ass hard drive I downloaded them all to.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Seems up to me!

Seemed like it was a minute or so ago . . .

IA is understandably slow to load these days, but what worries me is the fact that I've been unable to search inside their books (very useful for writing and/or annotating Wikipedia articles!). I sure hope this feature can be fully restored…
