Unfortunately, the bees weren't attacking Mark Zuckerberg, they were just hanging out at the build site.

Yeah fun and all but who pays for the extra strain on the powergrid (this goes for all countries with datacenters that compensate with green (incl. nulear) energy) Meta, Google and MS gonna invest in local infrastructure?

And who's going to make sure these tech companies actually run a nuclear power plant responsibly? Have they ever run anything responsibly?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 hours ago

Why do people assume the tech companies are going to be running the plants? They are just paying a utility provider to run the plants and sell the energy to them at wholesale prices. They’re not handing out dosimetry to CS graduates and telling them to go wrench on the reactor like it’s a new social media app.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission. As some who works in nuclear facilities, let me be clear: they do not fuck around.

I know, and I'm glad of it, but look: tech companies DO fuck around. A lot. There are lots of ways to pressure individuals into cutting corners, and to pressure auditors and controllers to look the other way. The regulators might catch them, but there's a very real possibility that a tech company fucks up REAL bad before they get shut down. They have a very long history of it.

True. In all likelihood, they would subcontract plant operation to people who do know how to run one like Westinghouse, though

They don't have it on separate grid? Thought it would be completely sufficient since I assume data centers should have constant stable draw. But makes sense they would want to sell the electricity too.
