For browsers you do have options. You can always use Firefox or Brave.

Yes. Edge is just Chromium with a different coat of paint.

I just virtualize Windows for rare cases where I need something that requires it.

It's astounding to me how many people are okay with being shit on constantly by Microsoft when the Linux desktop is as viable as it is.

I never got that too. They complain all the time about Microsoft fucking them over with a Windows update but then they say, "No I can't use Linux because $X isn't implemented" And then when $X is implemented they come up with another reason. "$Y isn't implemented." And so on and so forth.

In reality, they're just too lazy to try anything new. I'm of the opinion that even if there was an exact copy of Windows with absolutely everything they complained about working the same, except it didn't have any of the downsides windows had… They'd still use windows and make up some reason why they couldn't use the alternative.

Is anyone shocked ? If you care about privacy you should be ditching Windows but even if you somehow are stuck use a FOSS browser.

Yeah, it's kinda a no-brainer. If Edge used its own engine then I could see an argument for using it if it has a specific feature that you need, but it's just Chromium underneath. Nothing really special about it.

Now hold on a second there, let's give credit where credit is due. Edge has some pretty special features about it.

Such as:

  • Sends images you view online to microsoft
  • Injects advertisements for edge into the browser whenever you go to the chrome download page
  • Makes itself your default browser....by force.

These are all very special features, exclusive to edge. I know of no other browser that does these things.
