And most importantly, what do you think about it? I think it's quite bad except for a few nice details and while being definitely shorter it also feels like it's missing some of the features that make OP such a quintessential read. Nonetheless, still amusing lol

As someone who's watched all the anime and read all the manga from the beginning, I've been watching the live action and so far really enjoying it.

No, the plot is not entirely accurate, the characters aren't 100% the same, but honestly I wouldn't want them to be. The One Piece manga and anime just wouldn't translate 100% to live action and be a good show. I think the adaptation and the changes they make work very well for a live action show (without spoiling anything).

The things they needed to get right, they did, IMO. For example, Luffy's pure optimism, the relationship within the straw hat crew, the emotional scenes (I cried a few times)...

A lot of people expect and want to see a 100% faithful adaptation, but that doesn't make sense to me. If I wanted to watch/read One Piece, I would just watch the anime or read the manga. As a OP fan, the live action serves a specific purpose for me which is just to relive some of the moments I watched as a kid with real people and to see different take on the story. I think the show achieved that.

Its definitely watchable. Sanji's backstory was particularly well done, I thought.

The important thing to keep in mind, I think, is that the live action isn't made for us superfans, it is to introduce this wonderful story to a new audience.

Hopefully, the live action will enthrall even more people to enjoy the world of One Piece.

Gate's open, come on in.

I finished the season and it's quite good.

With Netflix' track record I didn't expect much. I just hoped it would not be total crap, but now I like it and I want more seasons.

The characters are properly done with flashbacks to get their childhood and motivation behind everything. It's funny dialogue and situations, lots of action, some really sad backstory, some world and organisation explaining for the new viewers.

Also Zoro is pretty badass in the live action.

Yeah they even resisted the urge to make Nami black ._. (and instead went for her adoptive sister).

Are you sure you didn't fall for some forum rant? I just checked Google also with results limited to 2022 and 2021 but there was no hit on the front page.

If I remember correctly, they just put out a picture at the beginning with each selected actor but nothing before that.

Never watched the anime or read the manga, but have knowledge from general cultural osmosis. I've been enjoying it. It's not great, but also much less awful then some other live action adaptations I've seen. Pretty solidly in B movie territory. Luffy's actor has the right energy, , though his accent is a little annoying sometimes. Crew members have been fun. Zoro's three swords look stupid, but they're doing their best. Like the couple nods to lack of direction. Nami is alright. Usopp and Sanji are a delight. Fights are a weird mix between trying to be as cool as the anime, and the reality that humans are not that graceful. Enjoyable, but also silly. Something I can watch and enjoy on my own, but probably won't introduce to my family.

I don't like the live action's marine base, usopp island, baratie, and arlong fight arcs. However, I prefer the live action's alvida, axe hand morgan fight, buggy, and nami's village. While the inclusion of garp in the roger scene was nice, I feel like garp and koby have too much screentime.

CGI fights are worse like gomu gomu powers, fishmen, black cat captain, etc. But I prefer the live action's no power choreographed fights like nami, zoro, and sanji's fights.

Kind of a mixed bag overall.

I thought they could've dropped the 'gomu gomu no' for announcing moves to make it more live action-y, and both big fights felt too easy. it's a long time ago that I read it, but I feel like Luffy took a whole lot more of a beating before winning fights.

But overall I was positively surprised.
