2023.09.04 SOTD:

  • Prep: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser

  • Brush: AKA Brushworks Amethyst Watchman with 26mm AP Shave Co G5C

  • Razor: Gem Jr. 1912

  • Blade: Personna Gem PTFE (2)

  • Lather: Summer Break Soaps Daydream

  • Post Shave: Alum, Stirling Mentholated Unscented Witch Hazel and Aloe, Summer Break Soaps Remote Learning Aftershave Splash, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream Extra-Dry

Take number 2 with my Gem., but still not able to achieve a close shave. The shave was better than attempt #1, but that wouldn't take much. I'm sure I'll get better the more I use it, but that will take time. I did make sure to ride the cap like crazy this shave, which is probably why it was better than the last. 3+ pass shave.

  • Razor: Schick Type B2
  • Blade: Personna Injector
  • Brush: Semogue TSN LE 2012
  • Pre-Shave: O Way Softening Shaving Cream
  • Lather: Mike’s Natural Soaps Peppermint & Rosemary
  • Aftershave: Myrsol Aqua Balsamica
  • Additional Care: Alum Block

It is time for one of the Holy Grail razor again. Makes a Monday shave even better!

  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Karve CB SB D
  • Blade: Astra SP Green
  • Lather: Macduffs - Dark Sky Preserve - Soap
  • Post Shave: Macduffs - Dark Sky Preserve - Aftershave

Excellent shave. Very pleasant scent the only possible complaint is that it’s a bit mild which they caution in their description.

  • Brush: Zenith 508A XL/Bristle (B35) (MOAR BOAR) 31mm
  • Razor: Blackland Era - Level 2 SB
  • Blade: Personna 74 (34)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister & Mann - Reserve Fern - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm
  • Fragrance: Summer Break Soaps - Woodshop - EdP

The level 2 is nice and mild. Although the shave wasn't super duper close, it's still very good and comfortable. Everything smelled wonderful and I'm in love with Woodshop.

Sep 4, 2023 - Sample September/Mammoth Monday: Dammusi

  • Prep: Coffee
  • Prep: Klar - Activated Charcoal - Face Soap
  • Brush: Farvour Turn Craft Eye of Jupiter 27mm Motherlode Knot
  • Razor: Wolfman Razors WR4 (Aluminum)
  • Blade: Feather Artist Club Professional [2]
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Dammusi - Soap
  • Post Shave: Gentleman’s Nod - Calabria - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Gentleman’s Nod - Musashi - Eau de Parfum

It's #mammothmonday in #sampleseptember, and today's sample is Dammusi. The scent is beautiful. I really want to love it, but I think it's just too powdery for me. I'm curious if the aftershave has the same powdery-forward notes.

The WR4 was a quick, smooth shaver. I still need to find a snazzy aluminum handle to use instead of the Razorock stainless steel handle. The balance is off just enough that it's noticeable during the shave.

Calabria offered a citrus-forward, Mediterranean escape. An excellent new scent from GN. While Calabria's opening is much brighter, I thought I picked up some heart notes that were similar to Musashi. As such, I used the Musashi fragrance as well.

Rating: 4.5/5

I'm surprised that Calabria isn't a chilli scent, they put that in everything, including ice cream 😅

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

😂 Now you have me wondering if there are any good chili scented soaps.

Abbate Y La Mantia's Vulcano 💖 (Warning, for some, the anise note is stronger than the chilli. In my nose, it's mostly a chilli scent)

Thanks for the suggestion. I need to explore more of the AylM product line.

Straightember Mammoth Monday

  • Brush: Zenith B21 (XL chrome-plated copper handle, 28 mm boar with 50 mm loft)
  • Razor: Filarmónica 14 Doble Temple (8/8, extra full hollow, red scales)
  • Lather: Chicago Grooming Co. (Formerly Oleo Soapworks) – Armonía
  • Post Shave: Summer Break Soaps – Valedictorian
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth – Shire

Delicious early Monday morning shave with new to me Armonía. Thank you @[email protected] for the smush! The much hyped Darkwing base is crazy creamy and easy to dial in, and the tobacco fougère is right up my alley. A great first impression. Good start into the week so far.

3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I went for a deep, rich YouTube lather today. The SV Beta 4.3 base just loves this. I pushed a lot of water into it.

Wonderful shave today; my second with the Koraat 14-2.0. An obvious thing to do next is to refresh the edge on my Fili 14, and compare.
