15-minute cities is such an obviously good idea that the only way to argue against it is to come up with these nonsensical paranoid fantasies

[–] [email protected] 87 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean, when you're not white this happens pretty frequently either way

[–] [email protected] 59 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Was just going to say, this shit is all a projection of what they want to do to POC people. Try going into a gated community at night if you're black.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 1 year ago

Doesn't even have to be gated. Just any neighborhood with an HOA or 90% of the households are making more than median income

Literally 1983 and Super mario Bros just came out and I really want my duck hunt light gun to work on modern televisions.

all of life should permanently be inconvenient and dangerous because otherwise the bike-toting commies are going to outlaw going to the less convenient stores that are further away

[–] [email protected] 40 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So cool how the Koch Brother(s) and other right-wing billionaires got us cheering for shit that's actively killing us. From more carbon emissions to ending masking and vaccines for covid.

Dont these kind of people realize it would be (just as) easy to control and survey everyone's movements if they drove in cars?

>Everyone's forced to register their vehicles with insurers and the state

>Everyone's forced to ride the same roads

>Those very roads are bursting with cops and surveillance technologies

>Even your own car is packed with surveillance technologies

>Lifetime subscription to consume oil and auto loans packaged as "personal freedom"

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 year ago

I had a libertarian tell me once that we shouldn't have drivers licenses because its against freedom. He said people Iran are more free in this aspect, because "they can just hop in a car and drive at age 13", which I doubt is even true.

Isn’t it more dystopian to be forced to own a car? Mf most Americans are coerced into paying ridiculous amounts of money just to be able to get anywhere!

“The government wants to trap us in 15 minute zones” I say from my gated suburban neighborhood that I couldn’t survive in if my car broke down or got repossessed because I defaulted on my loan

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 year ago

Isn’t it more dystopian to be forced to own a car?

no, something can't be dystopian if middle class americans already do it, that just means its normal. and coercion is when someone is pointing a gun at you - economic coercion, material conditions? never heard of them.

neoliberalism has become pure self-replicating ideology, nothing real required

sicko-biker

whatever pigs!

I yell as I weave my way past them on my sweet bike

[–] [email protected] 56 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I really don’t know how they got that from “I’d like to be able to walk to the grocery store”

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Propaganda shat out by oil industry lobbyists after they calculated 15 minute cities would cause their profit growth to drop by 0.1% because people would end up buying less gas because they're walking/biking more and driving less. Naturally frothingfash believe it uncritically just like anything else fascist media tells them to get mad about.

You might think your delusional utopian fantasy of "food near home" sounds cool, but what will you do when they start making you put poop in your hair huh? What about the people without hair? What will they do?

You fucking tankies never think anything through

They're absolutely convinced that the government is gunning for them personally

Would be really nice to just fucking walk five minutes to the store to grab some nice fruit or fresh veggies before dinner everyday, but nooo

I have to drive 20 minutes to the nearest store with decent produce at an affordable price because freedom or something

it is legit insane to me how widespread this particular brainworm is. like was it something being broadcast on foxnews? because this shit is legit everywhere and it makes zero sense.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

This is right up there with the "eat bug live in pod" meme.

These kind of memes are extremely disgusting because it brings to light a very apparent and real issue (the collapse of material conditions largely caused by ecological decline brought on by capitalism) but then shifts the scope of blame from the actual perpetrators (the ghouls in power) to marginalized groups.

This already happens to non white people who dont have cars, they're called "loitering laws".

But- im just gonna let them indulge themselves with the "im a big brain becos I just whipped up a gotchta" only because of how pathetic it makes them look.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Loitering laws have also been used to push kids in general back inside their homes. Obviously happens less to white kids, but it still happens a lot to kids and teens across the board. People are really wild with it.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

meemaw WHY DONT KIDS GET OFF THEIR PHONES AND GO OUTSIDE

chuds whenever something good might happen:

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 year ago (1 children)

isnt this basically what happens to black people in cities

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago

dystopia is when things happen to white people

[–] [email protected] 37 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So you agree, police exist to oppress citizens?

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 year ago

They know. They're just scared the to become the target demographic us-foreign-policy

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 year ago (6 children)

There is no grassroots opposition to 15 minute cities. All outrage is being whipped up by the fossil fuel companies terrified of people not having to drive everywhere.

Of course there are plenty of dim-bulb car chuds who buy into the outrage because they can’t imagine not riding their penis extension for every journey

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I just found out my aunt, who I genuinely thought was smarter than this, believes 15 minutes cities already exist and they're already preventing people from leaving their zones. I couldn't get any specific details from her. I'm pretty sure she arrived at this stuff through alternative medicine wellness shit.

Also, shouldn’t conservatives want a return to the US before car companies ruined everything?

Starting to believe that “conservative” thing is a bunch of horseshit. Pure ideology.

Change I like = good

Change I don’t like = bad

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Why though? What motivation exists for that?

Also is it just me or is it literally only the right that is talking about 15 minute cities?

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Walkable streets are basically fascism when you think about it

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I just literally never hear anyone else talk about it. We talk about walkable cities but not 15 minute cities. We talk about fuck cars but not 15 minute cities. The whole discussion about 15 minute cities seems to almost entirely come from the right having some huge reaction to some incredibly background thing that isn't a major policy of anyone. I don't care about ""15 minute cities"" I care entirely about things remaining walkable and public transportation being free.

It all seems primarily a reactionary outrage tool that they have managed to create from something very small in the first place.

I travel to my beach house / cabin/ boat / condo/ home town AT LEAST twice a year

i have yet to have it explained to me why reactionaries think this will happen. What's the incentive? The only thing I've heard is utter gibberish about Jews reducing population growth for completely unspecified reasons.

The average adult at a good pace can walk 1 mile in 15 minutes. Do they really think every single square mile will be a locked off box patrolled by cops in guard towers. They think it'll be like the movie Equilibrium where they only jobs are sad factory worker and cops. And the ratio of cop to civilian is 1000 to 1.

Oh, I've got it. We should tell them 15 minute cities would increase wages for cops, then they'd be on board.

Lol. Westoids really think cops are going to respond to calls that fast. But hey, guess we should defund them to ensure they don’t oppress us in a nice and convenient city, right?

Step 1) make cities more convenient to walk around in.

Step 2) limit traffic in clean air zones to try and lower the incidence of asthma and other respiratory illnesses.

Step 3) ???

Step 4) literal 1984.
