I haven’t processed what it means yet. I’m still at the first stage of grief.

I was shot down mid-scroll. Brutal.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Holy crap... That is brutal.

I was in the middle of switching over to Lemmy. Honestly I'm really enjoying it so far.

I tried to use the official reddit app and it was horrible. So I'm trying out Lemmy. The look and feel on Lemmy mobile app (Jerboa) is so similar to Reddit is Fun.

I’m using wefwef.app and so far it’s like 90% of the way to an Apollo clone. Now we just need more users, communities, and content.

Tell all your friends! Wait, we’re all redditors. Shit…

Want to know what’s worse? According to The Verge, /u/iamthatis told them it was Reddit who pulled the plug earlier than planned.

(Lemmy gif test, take #1)

ETA so far wefwef.app feels like a great Apollo clone. No push notifications on iOS (yet?) but I added it to my Home Screen and it’s great.

Same dude. It didn't have got to me how to live without RIF, so I'm still treating it like a momentary shutdown

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I’m sad now :( I’ll be even sadder tommorow once it sinks in

When this saga began, I didn't think I'd be struggling with such a sense of disconnect with the loss of an app of all things. However, I do feel that Christian's eulogy for Apollo helped, a gentle reminder to "smile because it happened". Here's to moving on.

I'll say here what I said there -

"This is like seeing someone steal the motorhome you've had tons of adventures and experiences in, and roll it over the edge of the Grand Canyon as you watch helplessly. It's not just the loss of your comfy, customized motorhome, it's all of the feelings and memories that are attached to it."

RIF is as well. Sad times and stuff but I'm happy to be here instead.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

GOAT app. Don't have the heart to remove it from my phone

I just used it for the last time I think. But I think we are into only minutes left...

So at the moment my “workflow” is to completely stop accessing Reddit via mobile apps. I’ll still use Reddit via Google Searches because it remains important for finding key information.

I’m content playing with Lemmy as my main mobile “app”.

I feel like Lemmy will only grow from here.

So many old subs have popped up and become properly active.

RIF just started returning error 429 as well. I sadly uninstalled it and then launched Jerboa instead.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I've had a ton of issues with Jerboa, but thus far Connect for Lemmy is working well!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Yeah… instant crashing. It’s a weird feeling.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

The end of an era

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Yup. It’s done. No more. Wow…. Well HELLLOOOOOOO LEMMMMINGS!!!!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Just replaced my launcher icon for RIF with Liftoff

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I was sleeping, I woke up, checked that my boy has been murdered, now I can’t sleep peacefully. It hurts.

10 years on it for me. Hope there's a Lemmy app or theme etc to replicate the feeling

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

pours one out 😢

The Relay for Reddit app is still working, while the developer is willing to pay for the API pulls.

Basically paying out of his pocket because Reddit didn't give him nearly enough time to prepare a subscription plan, I had already been using Lemmy 10x as much as Relay since the 12th, but now I have to factor that every API pull is costing DBrady.

On the 5th, it will no longer be able to pull NSFW tagged posts. I can't say I will be paying a subscription that mostly goes to Diggit and doesn't have NSFW.

Today Christian pushed an update so people could export their Pixel Pals to his other app. I don't think he thought Apollo would crash so I reckon he will push one final update soon.

Edit: nevermind, Apollo doesn't crash anymore.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Somehow Relay is still working.

[–] Paradoxvoid 1 points 1 year ago

I've heard Relay got a temporary exemption or is taking the hit on the chin until they can implement a subscription model.

The days of free 3rd party apps are well and truly dead though.

Sad days, friends. Sad days, indeed.

Rest In Peace, Apollo. You were my favorite social media app. You may rest now. 😔

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Same for rif. Just made this account about 20 minutes aggo. Been comething here and there. Fuck Steve Huffman. Everyone who reads this, dont be chickening back to reddit now. Lets make this comunity ours.

Sad day, hopefully I work out what I'm doing here..!

Someone on Reddit said “years of muscle memory gone,” which hit me hard. Apollo was Reddit for me for years, so depressing watching this play out.

Sync too :(

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Just checked, and yep - it crashes whenever I try to open it. Honestly, it feels sort of surreal to think that this day ever came.

[–] MortyMcFry 1 points 1 year ago

Didn’t know it wouldn’t even open. RIP

Baconreader is also gone. RSVP 🥓
