used RIF for 7 years, tried using the official app but RIF was just so much better. when i uninstalled it two weeks out of protest, it really felt like i had to say goodbye to an old friend. i do enjoy lemmy, but...

Yeah, Lemmy apps are rough at the moment, but I'm optimistic for them

RINLF sounds like a very niche category of nsfw 😳

I'm a RiF refugee too. Used it for almost a decade, now that it's gone I find the official app to be very difficult to use.

The Fediverse has been really cool and I'm glad I took the jump. I was apprehensive at first, but I've found Lemmy to be pretty fun so far!

I think this is the only poppinkream I've ever seen that doesn't have citations all over it.

No longer the front page of the internet anymore for sure.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago

Not my internet.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 1 year ago

Rest in peace. I hope Reddit soon follows.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 year ago (3 children)

We’ve been here before. Some of us old fucks have gone from BBS to IRC to sites like SA, GenMay, Digg, Reddit. It’s jus the nature of the beast.

Gonna miss the solid App support Reddit had but it’s only a matter of time before there are many great options for Lenny. Wefwef while browser based is actually really nice!

Reddit apparently doesn't remember the digg migration and I hope they suffer the same fate.

I know everyone has made the switch, but the ReVanced team have stolen the API keys out of the real Reddit app and have made patchers available for multiple Reddit apps including RiF.

You'll need a fresh copy of the APK and:

https://github.com/revanced/revanced-manager

Obviously NSFW is a no go but everything else should work.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Without porn, patching old RIF is genuinely not worth it. I'd rather wait and support the new Lemmy app by the same dev

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is the RIF guy making a Lemmy app!?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

He said he's making one for Tildes on his goodbye page.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Username checks out. Who doesn't appreciate a little NFSW content?

I'm gonna miss RIF... Cannot stand the official app.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

it's crazy just how bad the official app is.

Just gonna throw one up for the dark mode homies. Good bye rif, you will be missed.

Been using RIF for years, you never know how important something is until it's gone :(

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I used RIF for a decade...still feels off without it

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

RIF was Reddit to me. The official app and even the desktop site are so foreign and convoluted that they don't even register as being the same website.

Excited for the sync Lemmy app

I paid for RIF and I'd do it again in a second. Hopefully the lemmy ecosystem comes up to its high standard one day!

I took a last screenshot of Apollo and its final announcement but I haven’t deleted the app.

I did replaced the Home Screen icon with WefWef and it feels very great now , almost like home.

[–] tuff_wizard 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah was browsing Apollo when it dropped out. I knew it was coming but still disappointing.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah apparently Reddit pulled the plug early and with no warning to Christian. Seems like they’re really determined to be a full bag of dicks to the end

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago

Such a strange position for them to take, that of cartoon villains

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Don't think they told anyone about doing it early yesterday. They had been saying July 1st the whole time then BaconReader went down along with RIF, Apollo, etc yesterday June 30th. One last fuck you to all the devs that actually helped grow that site.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

They pulled the plug at exactly 00:00 UTC. Didn't give a shit about timezones. Or their home turf of NA to be into July 1st. They did it as soon as any point on Earth was in July 1st.

Just a big ole middle finger to the users who wanted their last night

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That’s so cartoonishly gross. What on earth is wrong with them?

interestingly, my RIF wouldn't load pages last night and this morning, but now does...

In case no one mentioned it yet, I heard about wefwef.app from another post and it's a really nice looking frontend for this site.

I've been using it for about day now but I like it better than the base website for sure. Some people say it's like Apollo but I wouldn't know since I used relayforReddit.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Even as an android user who never used Apollo, wefwef feels great

Connect for Lemmy on Android is working great for me as a replacement to RIF

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I only remember RIF being the mobile app. Reddit's app didn't show up till recently. Miss it already. I can't seem to uninstall it. Very sad day.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I was surprised at how sad I was at RiF's passing. I feel like I owe the creator a lot of money for how much I used their app.

Moved here. Just tried out summit. Got the RIF vibes.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Just uninstalled from my phone. Used it for years. A shame.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

I'll be keeping installed. Not to hold out hope, but for the memories of good times.

It probably drained more battery then anything else. RIP GOOD FRIEND

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm delaying the inevitable with the patches that revanced dropped but it will never get another update and it will one day become unusable. I will miss it fully when it does.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Just let it go m8. Old times will be cherised, and a bright future awaits us here on lemmy.
