The lawsuit argues that the Biden administration went too far in asking schools with government-funded lunch programs not to discriminate against queer kids.

Twenty-two Republican state attorneys general are suing the Biden administration for requiring schools that accept federal funds for free lunch programs to comply with gender and sex non-discrimination rules. To put it plainly: These 22 state attorneys generals seem to think schools should be allowed to discriminate against LGBTQ kids who use the Department of Agriculture’s free lunch programs.

They want the money, but only to spend on their in-group. Dept of Ag needs to send them boxes with "thoughts and prayers" instead of money.

thoughts and prayers" instead of money.

Or those bible verse 100 dollar bills lmao

They have upgraded to full on fascism. Starting up culture wars, blasting propaganda to convince the country that a small group of a protected class is the root of all US problems. I’m tired of history being made in my lifetime.

And the worst part is the only progress we may see for the rest of our lives is getting back to where we were before facism took over. America is shit.

By every metric the USA is a failed-state.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

It's a global epidemic. That's why it's our responsibility to stomp out fascists and refuse their platform at every opportunity.

Dan Savage pointed out in his podcast yesterday that in interwar Berlin, lgbtq-whatever-else-we-add-now people were more free than any time since probably ancient Rome before the Christian period.

It took about 3 years of Hitler in power to start shipping those people off to the camps. They still haven't really recovered.

“The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.” -Antonio Gramsci (who died in a literal Fascist prison)

I know who Gramsci was. I don't understand what you're getting at with that quote.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

So they're not even trying to pretend to hide it. They are the party of "Screw you if you don't fit my mold of what people ought to be"

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 year ago

I feel like it’s been a long while now since they tried to hide it.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 year ago

Good ol Christian values.

They've "gone too far" telling schools to feed all hungry children? It boggles my mind that these people can't see they're the bad guys.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you’re not self-aware enough to ask “Are we the baddies?”, you’ll never know the answer.

Someone needs to flood their physical and digital mailboxes with the bible verse that says hurting children is a one way ticket to hell.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It sure would be great of we could get through to people without having to resort to quoting from The Goat Herder's Guide to the Galaxy, but maybe it's the only way.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Jesus Rollerblading Christ- these assholes would step on a child with leukemia just for a better perch to spit on LGBTQ kids.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah. They don’t love disabled kids either, they just can’t yell that at the same volume in the public square.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 year ago

This is absolutely disgusting. All kids no matter what should get free meals at school.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

That’s so fucked up

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's so many questions I have for how it'd work. But I can totally see some asshat using it as an excuse to deny some child who has no idea yet free lunch.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

To qualify for the free lunch program money, they have to not discriminate against LGBTQ+ children in the context of the program. They want the right to prohibit all LGBTQ+ children, like punishing trans kids for wearing the clothes they want, or witholding diplomas from same sex couples who attempt to attend the prom. It's not that they want to slap the free cheese sandwiches from the hands of young LGBTQ+ kids. They want to prevent them from existing entirely, or at least tell their constituents they are trying in order to stir up votes and donations.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

They're going full retard with the bigotry thing, aren't they?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I thought that this was a law that they're trying to pass... not suing because they gave people basic rights!?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Everybody's outraged at those AGs and I'm out here dumbfounded as a non-American wondering.. your administration had to literally put a distinct rule in place that mandated schools to treat all kids equally? Like, such a thing had to be explicitly written down and wasn't already covered by constitutional human rights?? God damn

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The worse part is there's already plenty of Republicans who think free lunch for kids who can't afford it is a bridge too far.
