I'm going on a trip tomorrow and want to be able to access jellyfin remotely but port forwarding JF isn't an option. I already have Wireguard set up on my pfsense router and my phone can VPN in just fine. I used to have a tablet so I reused its config for my steam deck. I SSH'd the config file over, imported in Network Manager. But when I activate the Wireguard VPN nearly the entire UI stops responding. The power button works and I can bring up the on-screen keyboard but that's it. My only option is to hold down the power button to force the deck to shut down.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on?

My guess is that the steamos kernel is missing the wireguard module needed for wireguard support in NetworkManager.

Another alternative you could try is running https://playit.gg/ on whatever computer you are hoping to connect to. I use it sometimes to share Minecraft servers with friends.

That's interesting. I've been using a wireguard config for Surfshark and no such issues. It's been a while since I last used it though. What version of SteamOS are you on?

try removing the dns option from the wg conf file and allowing only your local subnet. that wait you will still have the gateway to your home's lan and you wont touch the routing for default traffic.

Aside from what's probably the problem which Moxvallix posted, maybe you could use a Hotspot from your phone with the VPN on to your steamdeck, it'll allow you to access JF from your steamdeck for now I think.

I can use my phone's wifi to be a client and an AP at the same time? I did not know that. That would work though.

Depends on the type of phone, usually it's just finding out. You can also share it over Bluetooth within desktop mode, unsure about game mode.

I have a Pixel 6A. Going into the settings it looks like I can share wifi while being connected to an AP at the same time. I'll do that.

I've also found that if I set my VPN to auto-connect, it doesn't work at all and causes problems. Make sure it's not set to connect automatically.
