So I'm definitely missing something with Lemmy...I've tried creating an account on their site, but it's never gone through. I know we get the same stuff on kbin as we do on Lemmy, but I was curious to try both out.

Surely it's not the same account for both, right?

I tried creating my account on Lemmy about a month ago, and it just kept doing the scrolly-wheel of doom and it never appeared to go through. I tried again today to see if it would work now, but, when I try to create the account, it says that it already exists, but trying to log in does nothing.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

There's hundreds of different Lemmy instances. On which one did you try to sign up? Lemmy.world?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

@Wander Yeah, lemmy.world. I'm still very new to the fediverse / haven't played with it much, so I'm still finding all these lovely, obvious pitfalls.

Any suggestions for alternatives to lemmy.world?

Thanks for replying!

@Chais lemmy.world. As I can see from everyone, that seems to be the culprit. Any suggestions for alternatives?

Thanks!

Did you check your junk mail folder?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

@MrJukes It never got far enough to suggest checking for email verification, unfortunately. It just kept trying to send it through to no avail.

I'll keep an eye out for wayward emails though. Thanks!

Which lemmy site? Lemmy.ml is closed for registration as far as I know.

@_spiffy I was trying on lemmy.world, which I'm guessing is full. Any ideas for alternatives?

Thanks for the help!

@fishsticks Yeah, I probably just borked something on my end. I wouldn't be surprised.

Which instance of Lemmy did you try? You might try another instance.

@nocturne213 I was trying to sign in on lemmy.world, but based on you and the other comments, I should try a different instance. Any suggestions for alternatives?

Thanks for responding!

Here is a list of instances, https://join-lemmy.org/instances

I would give lemm.ee a shot.

@nocturne213 This is perfect, thank you!

Manually search for the username you're trying to register. Verify that the name is unused before registering.

There's plenty of user facing error messages that don't yet exist. I've heard this one of them. Lemmy is alpha software at this point. There's a lot of work yet to be done.

@Hildegarde Hmmm, that's interesting. I've never come across someone using this same username, but I do suppose it's possible.

The issue is that it's saying that my email address already exists in the system, not necessarily the username itself.

It sounds like I'm going to be looking into other instances though, so hopefully it'll all be moot soon!

Thanks for replying, and I'll definitely do a search for the username out there!
