Holy shit, Linux memes trending in the global memes community? I belong here.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The best part of Linux memes are how much on the edge they are. I am honestly not sure if the Linux community disagrees on the point or if they think that one doesn't have to be so serious.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago

From my experience managing Linux folk it depends on the individual and the time of day.

I think a lot of people here are more technical and thus more likely to use or know Linux.

Threadiverse sounds like what Meta/Threads would call the fediverse lol

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

You can be damn sure they've snapped up the domains.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You say furry porn like it's a bad thing.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It is a very bad thing! Do tell me the community name. For research purposes, of course! So I know what to look out for, y'know? And also to tell my friend who also wants nothing with it

Every day we stray farther from gods grace

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

If God created everything and didn't want me looking at furry porn, why did he create it and give me a desire to look at it?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That thing is tame compared to the horrors that await deeper in the Internet. If God wants to smite Earth, it will be for way worse reasons that that.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For some reason the sites deeper in the internet that contain that sort of thing usually contain a ton of assholes as well. Not sure why.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Oh, definitely. Fucked up shit brings fucked up people. As for me, I'm never getting nowhere near those sites again. My curiosity is strong, but not that much.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Ridiculous. I am definitely not going to be going there or bookmarking it. In fact, I'm going to go there right now just so I can see exactly why I won't be going there.

Thank you for the laughs

2016 Twitter screenshots

I snorted audibly on that one.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago (12 children)

Is there a simple name that is a good catch-all? Preferably one that's two syllables? Lemmy is such a simple name, much like Reddit or Twitter. Fediverse and threadiverse i feel just complicate it all

I dislike "Fediverse" and "Threadiverse", because I feel like Meta has left a bad taste in people's mouths with the previews of their Metaverse, and I imagine that's probably the first thing most people think of when they hear "Fediverse". I think they'd be fine names on their own, if not for that.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fediverse really sounds like the metaverse but for feds... Not exactly a term i want to associate with

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Welcome to the Federaleverse 😎 lol the fed-a-verse is normal social media where they have teams dedicated to responding to subpoenas

You can say threadiverse without explaining the fedi part.

Long live Richard M. Stallman (GNU+Jesus)

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Anyone else getting "Gnu + Linux" vibes?

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I can't imagine getting the reference and not getting the reference at the same time.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Live vicariously from this person!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

Oh no the gnu/linux thing got a new pal!

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

I thought Kbin was much newer than lemmy. So Kbin would be the new stepchild?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yes, since the analogue is GNU/Linux. Though I don't know if Kbin shares any code with Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Then it's a bad analogy. Kbin and Lemmy work independently. Linux and GNU are part of the same stack. Like it's not remotely comparable. They are also written in two different languages so I doubt they share that much code on the backend at least.
