It will work as you describe with no issues: vibration won't be a problem. Use large/slow case fans (and even for the CPU consider a 92mm model if 120mm won't fit) and it should serve you well for years. Good luck!
Data Hoarder
We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.
I have two of these both full. No issues in 3-4 years
I have the same case been using it for about 5 years. I have only WD drives in there and it doesn't vibrate at all whatsoever. Almost all of the drives are shucked and there are 14.
Thanks for your reply. I will get the case and consolidate those two into a single server.
Yes. Always protect your investment against earthquakes by placing them in a place from which they can not easily fall.
They are two different datasets, with 2 backups for each (not in the same rack). I just don't like running a ZFS server separately.
