I have a hard time believing that any of those studies actually impact real life. If a researcher told me "people who argue against their beliefs need to shower more" I would say they should have become a construction worker.

True, but it doesn't reflect well on other studies on other potentially more controversial or important topics
I always thought that it was the journalists reporting studies incorrectly I never even considered that the studies themselves could be bullshit. You're right it really erodes confidence.
