Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Use a forwarding service, most sellers do free shipping in the states.
Pay the fee to use the service, pay taxes.
Avoid any massive brokerage charges.
The shipping cost alone US to Canada cost more.

I've done it a few times and the duty is of course based off the value of the drives. In my cases I've bought 1 or 2 drives at a time (20TB) and the duty was never more than $50, with about $10 of that being the processing fee.
Was this through USPS? Or other courier?
