That pal in the thumbnail looks like someone on the Palworld team took a fan edit of an Egyptian themed lucario and specifically designed that pal to look just like it.

I would say almost all of them fall under the 'legally distinct but totally is' category.

The server I set up for my friends is named "Portable Creatures: Exhalation of the Wilderness" for a reason.

I read in steam reviews that the Dev is actually suspected to use genAi on Pokémon images to create their pal designs

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Would not surprise me either way.

This is like a merge of Satisfactory and Ark Survival?

[–] [email protected] 17 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I thinks it’s Craftopia with Pokémon.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

Same devs so it absolutely is.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

With Pokemon yeah basically

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

...ok i give it a try on release.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's released on steam atm, early access.

Craftopia, the company's previous game, has been in early access for four years. I don't think this game is getting a release either.

Make no mistake, this is an early release survival/crafting budget game. The engine itself is fairly limited and feels more like a free mmo from 10 years ago than an Ubisoft game. It's fun, though. It has all that stuff which is advertised, and I've been having fun with it. It's a Skyrim kind of enjoyment, vast and shallow, but the vastness has its own appeal.

Unfortunately this seems like the kind of game which is going to be completely ruined in about a year. It is clearly set up to farm microtransactions in the future. Right now in the goodwill period the game functions like an actual game. Some people may want them to "finish" the game before they get it, but that's not the kind of game this is. The full release is now. In a year the game will be an unplayable skinner box.

Can confirm, ran fine on my desktop machine without needing to tinker (caveat: I changed the "compatibility layer" to use proton-ge before attempting to launch it of my own initiative).

I realize this is the linux gaming sub, but it's worth mentioning that this is on Gamepass too (I still use Gamepass on Xbox even though I don't game on Windows anymore).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Really wish I could run the Windows Xbox app on Linux

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I kinda do too. It's nice having the option to play Gamepass games on PC or console. Some games are just more comfy on one than the other.

Xbox cloud seems like a decent alternative when games simply don't run easily on Linux

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

are there any games not running easily in linux these days?

i mean apart from games with anticheat blocking it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Yeah, of course. There are plenty. I couldn't play Ghostwire Tokyo at all. And Ghostrunner required some random Windows package, vc2019 or something like that. That's just off the top of my head.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago

From epic freebies? I got it running by just installing vcrun via wine tricks button in heroic launcher. Steam games usually install these at first launch behind the scenes.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

oh, most games need visual C runtimes nowadays.

i find that i have this sort of issue often with pirated games, sometimes they don't automatically install those like Steam does, but its the same fix as Windows.

you can simply run the .exe installer for VC on the same prefix, exactly like you would do on windows, so not any harder at all.

I don't know what any of that means but it's not something I ever had to do with Windows.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

@helenslunch @umbrella A lot of Windows games need vc runtime or other libraries installed on the system.

Steam users got this managed from the installer (also in linux) but if you install it manually from the game installer chances are that the installer may not manage their dependences.

On linux world you can get a lot of oresets using lutris btw

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Yes I understand all of that. My point is, once again, this is additional configuration I never had to figure out with Windows.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

i never had to do this for original games on any os.

windows needs this sometimes if you pirate, so does linux.

in any case you can download it from microsoft and run it to install.

OR, to make it simpler some launchers like heroic offer an option to automatically install it, it should be under the option winetricks or similar. dunno if thats your case tho.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yes I'm aware. That's what I said I did. The point being that it wasn't as simple as it is on Windows.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

my point is it is exactly the same procedure as windows. you simply run the vcredist exe.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

No it's not. It's installed and run in the background without any manual intervention or Googling.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

in my experience, as stated before, this doesnt happen automatically every time on either platform.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Xbox cloud requires a controller, which kinda defeats the purpose of playing on PC imho.

That said, it DOES work well if you're into that kinda thing. I tested it out with MS Edge installed via flatpak.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Xbox cloud requires a controller

I didn't realize that. That's dumb.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Yeah I was pretty disappointed when I realized that. Oh well.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I really don't know how to feel about this game

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

For me is a hard pass. First their have a really weird take of the creatures being stolen and you committing crimes and such and then...

Apparently the creature designs were made using AI
