I'm breaking up with you now

A rant like this was almost certainly precipitated by her breaking up with him first.

No u, no u, no u....

Except he's wrong.

The world has not always been like that. It was the classical Athenians who were insanely sexist(e.g. not allowing women out without a male escort) and their views propagated through to the greek-worshipping Romans, who included it in the Bible, which already had a fair bit of misogyny from the Torah.

It was one of the reasons Boudicca tried to revolt, was because of the loss of women's rights the British celts faced under Roman rule

Boudicca

She was quite a horse

Bro, don’t you love it when the garbage takes itself out

Hey it has performance anxiety. No matter how big your gun, sometimes you just get nervous, especially around powerful women

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (2 children)

What is going on at the end of that gun's barrel?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago

It’s one of those fake guns that just has confetti pop out of the barrel when you pull the trigger accompanied by a kazoo noise

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago

There's a 9 mil pistol at the end of what looks like the barrel. The whole thing is an ammo loading mechanism, to rapid fire a metric ton of lead straight up into the air, causing a hail of tiny bullets. Simple area denial system, but the 9 mil calibre fits the original poster's ex's metaphorical member size, and the amount of shrapnel she just dodged is also on-point.

The gun, intimidating though it seems, would be stopped by holding a large wok over your head.

Dude, this is a Wendy’s restaurant.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Thanks for posting the correct phrase. For persons who didn’t know, the actual quote from The Office is the Wendy’s employee saying to Michael Scott over the phone, “Dude, this is a Wendy’s restaurant.”

This is similar to people misquoting Darth Vader as saying, “Luke, I am your father.”

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The phrasing is better though. There's no reason to use the correct and less punchy version.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Sorry my friend, I respectfully disagree, and that’s okay for us to have different opinions.

Reason I disagree is, that while I’m offering what the correct quote is, in actual context for that scene from The Office, the Wendy’s employee delivers that line with very punchy expression.

She’s tired of Michael Scott not understanding that he’s not talking to a potential blind date named Wendy, and because he’s not getting the point, she emphatically states: “Dude, this is a Wendy’s restaurant.” That scene is what became popular, invoking everyone on the internet parroting the phrase as a joke because of how that line was delivered, and how clueless Michael Scott was until he got the message finally that he called up a Wendy’s restaurant. I’d argue this is much more punchy than “Sir this is a Wendy’s.”

Unfortunately it got lost in translation, and now everyone says “Sir, this is a Wendy’s.” Less effective, and thus I likened it to the “Luke I am your father.” There’s no drama in Vader saying his line that way, which is why the delivery of his proper line in that scene is much more dramatic. (Granted the writing in the Star Wars canon movies are weak, but one can’t deny how popular Empire Strikes Back was because of it.)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

Sir, this is insightful.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Although I'm partial to your argument of not using incorrect quotes, I must admit I prefer the incorrect version. I've never watched that scene (haven't seen a lot of The Office at all in fact), so from a completely neutral standpoint: the shortened version sounds way more punchy to me. The original is just too long, too much of a mouthful and therefore not as catchy.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 9 months ago

This sounds like someone who'd say they're breaking up with you, only to stalk you on your social media

Creepy ass vibes

[–] [email protected] 19 points 9 months ago (2 children)

All the people in thus thread saying "what" and I'm wondering why people still take photos of another phone's screen

[–] [email protected] 15 points 9 months ago

I'm guessing to show its authenticity, as it'd be harder to fake

(Or it's your mate's phone or something and this was easiest for you)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

I'm wondering why not. It just looks nicer than a screenshot imo

[–] [email protected] 17 points 9 months ago (1 children)

all these idiots who think they want to go back and live in the Bronze Age

[–] [email protected] 17 points 9 months ago (3 children)

And they’d still be considered idiots even by Bronze Age standards.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 9 months ago (1 children)

tell them all their dreams and much more await them in Afghanistan

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

I'll pay for their train ticket

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

They’d be using stone in the Bronze Age and still be a few rocks short.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Still carrying around their phone and charger.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

If they are this stupid now with all this technology and information at their fingertips they would barely be able to feed themselves in the bronze age.

Thank you for listening to my ted talk

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Well, I did cum hard in your arse, It's not for every man I guess.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 9 months ago

People in this thread taking it at face value when:

  • Thee phrase "thank you for coming to my TED talk" implies satire
  • It's super easy and fun to post fake texts online
