Louisiana GOP Gov. Jeff Landry has declared a state of emergency due to a police officer shortage.

Landry's executive order issued Thursday lifts limits on how many new employees Louisiana sheriffs can hire and on payroll increases for their departments.

Landry, who previously had a career in law enforcement, said that police departments in the state are experiencing record-low employments “resulting in increased crime and less public safety.” As of July, sheriff's offices statewide were down 1,800 deputies, Landry said.

Hmmm, I'd like to see the crime statistics before and after this shortage.

Is this just political theater or is this guy planning to recruit brownshirts into the police force?

This is somehow reminiscent of how the nazis came to power, including the milktoast reporting by mainstream media. If they continue to inject their brand of fascists into the system they'll slowly gain more and more power and win.

Yep we are in the middle of a full on fascist surge, and the reprehensibles are gathering their troops. It's going to get really bad soon and no one seems interested in actually addressing this.

Yeah. Antifa. They've been fighting fascists since 1920s and part of their rationale for autonomous action is that the state is just notoriously bad at opposing fascism. That's why they protest against right wing fascist gateway speakers on campuses, because fascist speech / well crafted lies is fascist recruitment. Unfortunately well meaning "liberals" like e.g. Bill Maher then always come out of the woodwork and say bla bla free speech lol.
There is also liberal fascism that uses legal means but that's already pretty active in the US.

Sorry if I'm telling you something you already know :) But liberals like Bill Maher

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

But liberals like Bill Maher suck.

FinishedTFW 😋

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Haha oops! Yeah he's just an example though. Well I'd say they grew up and lived in a time where the economy had real growth so there were opportunists and they got wealthy - so they fundamentally don't understand the power of fascism as material conditions deteriorate. They are stupid and that is dangerous.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Exactly. Some of us have been calling out fascists lies for our entire adult lives. Standing strong to attack them when they march.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (4 children)

Don't worry I am sure the 2A amendment crowd will protect us.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago (7 children)

This is why all those on the left need to be armed. You're only doing yourself and others a disservice allowing fascist to have force multipliers.

milquetoast

[–] [email protected] 11 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I think this is an issue across America. My law enforcement friends comment on the recruiting issues and the reduced response times.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 8 months ago (2 children)

They could also be manufacturing the crisis and then taking advantage of this. Like mobbing the good cops to leave and then to be able to say "crisis!" and recruit more fascist cops.

Ahhh I'm just kidding there are no god cops and these guys aren't that smart ;)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

If a secret must be kept by thousands of people then it's not a secret for very long, imo. I don't think these efforts are concerted.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It doesn't take smarts to follow orders. We're primates - monkey see, monkey do - and even an idiot will have heard of "manufactured scarcity" by this point. I wouldn't write off the evil inherent in and enabled by the system so easily if I were you.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

For sure, those with money can hire the smartest sociopaths to create amazing strategies. I didn't want to outright spout off a conspiracy theory, but see if there is any investigation showing some kind of organized takeover of the police.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 8 months ago

Seems ridiculous.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 8 months ago (5 children)

Maybe they should look at reducing crime from the start, instead of just attacking it after its already underway. Better schooling and other social programs, maybe? Give people people enough prosperity so that they'll have something they want to protect, instead of having nothing to lose.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Not profitable. They need more slaves for the Angola ~~Plantation~~ Prison.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

Nah dawg gotta feed that slave labor machine

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

You are suggesting things far beyond the capacity of anyone in Louisiana's government. Republicunts are always reactionaries and don't even consider problems until they are in their face and then they choose to attack the symptom and not the disease.

Hmm, I wonder why no one wants to be a pig? 🤔

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

Nobody wants to be a pig, or live in Louisiana.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Even if you want to be the one good cop and arrest the bad ones, you cannot. It's illegal to be a good person and a cop both, so no good person would want to be a cop.

I’m originally from Louisiana but have been away for awhile. I know that this is a problem in New Orleans, which we still visit on a regular basis, and while it was bad when I lived there, I read local news and hear from friends that it’s even worse now.

The rest of the state - outside of a few random areas here and there, depending on trends that just affect these sorts of things regardless - I would be surprised if this is a real “crisis” everywhere else vs Landry (who is a major POS btw) just wanting to lock more people up in the private prisons that allegedly may help to fund his political ambitions.

Landry is a garbage person who looooooves “law & order”, is a Trump sycophant, and who will allegedly make decisions based on what will “own the libs” the most. He’s trash. I cannot explain how awful this person is.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

NO and BR always have had bad crime. Seems like authoritarian ideology bubbling to the surface again.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

Nasty ass teleprompter

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

The shortage is real despite how he's trying to play political theater with it.

Washed up cops like to set up shop in Louisiana thinking no one will see their backgrounds and then get fired once their terrible demeanor is exposed. Some Police Chiefs are also corrupt so it's hard for them to keep the good workers.

And all of that is before some of them get arrested for crimes themselves. It's a shit show.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

I thought Louisiana had a surplus of pigs
