and making it a rule uploading this bullshit sucks
Do you think they just want to troll you?
Have you really not read one of the many stickied posts all over Reddit about the blackout and what the admins are going to do to that website?
1. Posts must be related to the discussion of digital piracy
2. Don't request invites, trade, sell, or self-promote
3. Don't request or link to specific pirated titles, including DMs
4. Don't submit low-quality posts, be entitled, or harass others

It’s supposed to suck!
Yeah, that's literally the entire point. If the subs are unusable, site traffic falls, Huffman makes less money and looks worse to the investors, and people find better alternatives like here.
It's honestly hilarious Reddit bungled this so badly as to upset everyone. Ah well, at least with this digital piracy community I can rest assured a corporation isn't censoring discourse.
Reddit is probably going to be happy about the protest in this sub. Can't imagine that investors like the sub about getting stuff for free...
I mean, the sub was closed and Reddit forced it to reopen, so there is an argument they do endorse piracy
I still can't believe Reddit actually decided to do that. I thought they were going to ban the sub or keep it closed.
I figured given all the other subs to force back open, they should've just not risked the potential bad-press of appearing to endorse digital piracy right before going public as a company, and just stayed quiet and said nothing.
But then they should be happy we wanted to stay close right? How is a big dead sub better than a private one new people wouldn't even know it exists? Forcing r/piracy open was a very weird decision, I still don't get it.
The power of Reddit lies within its very diverse and many communities on special interests. People browsing r/piracy also browse the Frontpage, r/all and so on. But mainly their special interests is what kept them there. Because funny memes can be found everywhere.
Now, if those special interests are not being served any more, people will go elsewhere. So no, I don't think they will be happy and investors won't be either.
Active on her? She's a lucky lady 😂
Yarrr
Piracy and privacy guides, two main reasons why I'm here. Arggg 🤣
Aye a fellow lemmy.one user 🙋♂️🚢
Aye a fellow lemmy.one user!
@hyperio The great thing is, I don't even have to sign up. I just follow this sub (do you still call it a sub?) from my #Mastodon!
Ahh, bless the #Fediverse.
I think is called community now. At least is c/piracy to access [email protected]
You would think that a pirates favorite letter be the r/, but it truly always was the c/.
pirates be at 'SEA' now...
I regret that all im able to give you is a mere upvote
It won't be the same without RARBG. 😭
i still miss isohunt and mininova
I've not thought about Isohunt for a looooong time. That takes me back.
Mininova? I still miss Suprnova!
Wow haven't heard those names in ages
yeah, consistently great 1080p X265 releases you could rely on them, this was a big loss for me, nobody release that many X265 releases that fast, PSA only mainstream, megusta only TV shows, everything else either too slow or too rare
I've switched to the RBG and INFINITY x265 1080p releases from TorrentFunk or 1337x. IMO they are a decent replacement for the RARBG x265 1080p releases but its hard to find some movies.
The selection on RARBG was just insane..
That being said. You can still find plenty of the old releases on other trackers.
Let's do it then
Arr, take my wooden peg!
Quick question, how does this piracy community compare with fmhy?
Fmhy are just providers of the instance and that's what their general communities focus on. For information regarding the high seas, this is the community you want to look into.
No actually fmhy is technically a "competitor" to this community if you want to call it that. I personally think fmhy has a better megathread than this one due to it being updated much more frequently, but essentially both communities are similar.
Either one community will become big and the other small.
Or, the two communities will start going into niches (like, one being more focused on movies and the other games)
And seeing as you can subscribe to both, I assume that these communities will assist each other.
The strength of federation is that you have no "one-true-community" anymore. If one gets sick (I.e. Reddit) you have other safe havens to take over
Ich war dabei. Los Piraten!
I didn't use /r/piracy, but I do read this forum
Just the quality of replies and posts here over the old sub, is honestly alone worth the move.
I'm afraid to ask, but why John Oliver?
He makes Last Week Tonight which is a show with a big reach, Reddit-Mods are essentially pinging him.
He did respond on Twitter with a dump of sexy pictures of him to post.
The show is on pause because of the writers-strike at the moment, so it might take a while for this to be a topic.
