For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

He says he never wanted any attention.

Did he try not buying a truck with a unique design that almost no one owns?

Especially in Maine where half the people drive subaru outbacks and other half drive pickups.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

Definitely, but I would say that, outside maybe the Bay Area and even probably there, you'll draw attention to yourself with a Cybertruck. It's pretty much designed to draw attention to itself.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

Hey now it's a pickup. Not one where you can halul anything, albut it has a tiny flatbed

[–] [email protected] 16 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I hate lots of cars, I also dont sympathise with anyone who has problems with their Cybertruck. But going out of your way to shit on something that makes someone else happy makes you an asshole.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

Idk, but this thing is fucking huge and dangerous as fuck. It seems like driving that box atound your neighbour makes it everyone's problem.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Agree completely with your sentiment.

I’m also curious how on earth this human didn’t understand that buying a cybertruck would bring him a ton of attention.

I mean, I kind of like the styling of it as a "Lol, why the fuck not" its stupid and fun, if you have the money why not. But I think some people take owning a Cybertruck as right wing virtue signaling, Musk certainly hasnt made himself any more popular since it was released, constant shenanigans at Tesla and the constant stories about issues with them.

Its gone from a weirdly designed car to a whole thing

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

The optics of owning a Cybertruck has certainly gotten worse, but even as just a "weirdly designed car", it was always going to garner a lot of attention.

It isn't like owning a Tesla, which was, for a while, just an expensive EV. The Cybertruck was always a shock factor vehicle.

The guy sell cannabis for a living, he probably consumes quite a lot. He do him, of course, but that may explain it.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 months ago

I'd feel bad for him but no one who buys one of these is doing so for any other reason than to be seen with it. It takes the impracticality of pickups for the average person and turns it up to 11 while simultaneously looking like shit.

Would I let him know that I'd rather have the car Homer Simpson designed instead of his, and that its not just the design that makes me feel that way? Absolutely.

Would I go out of my way to do so? Probably not. But if thr conversation went that way...

Would I spit on or key his car? Absolutely not. Thats weird as hell.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago

I would rather have The Homer too. Engineers worked hard to make sure The Homer did everything it was supposed to do.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Because that's exactly what it is. Successful car company let's a guy designing a car who isn't even qualified to write his own name

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago

He bought a truck that hasn't fully rendered yet. Of course everyone hates it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I saw a real Cybertruck on a street for the first time last week. Looks much worse than in pictures, like a modernized Trabant.... (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trabant).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

I can't even comprehend what this monstrosity looks like irl. And i hope i never have to see one. It's bad enough that people drive more and more of these dumb ass yank tanks over here.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Someone put led lights on a metal dumpster and installed a windshield, who's gonna love that?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Small dick energy people. It's pretty clear that he knews exactly who's buying that shit. He tells shit like: if someone's challenging you in the apocalypse, you are gonna win. And his fanboys were whooing and shaking their tiny fists.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

So what happened with this thing anyway? When it was first announced, it was polarizing, but a lot of people still seemed pretty hyped for it. But now that it's it, everyone's shitting on it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

It took a lot longer from announcement to launch than anticipated. In that time Musk bought twitter and went full out in the open right-wing nut and several other automakers announced and released electric trucks.

The vehicle itself suffers from the panel alignment quality control issues that every Tesla suffers from but exaggerated because the body panels really need tight tolerances to look right. The grade of stainless steel they used isn't great for weather resistance and without a clearcoat it immediately starts to lose the factory finish.
