I'm not seeing that option anywhere. Nor does it allow me to change the "weight". I found a github discussion saying it should show up after you save the settings, but I tried that on two instances and didn't get any unique URL.

Ah, I found it under the "cookies" tab. Needs to be more obvious IMO.

I checked it out, but most of the public instances I looked at use google + bing. I think I only came across one that used Mojeek, but they deranked it so google results were still at the top.

Yeah you can customize them -- if you never clear your cookies.

Pretty much need to self-host it to customize it.

Conversations like this are why I want more people, especially "normies", in the Fediverse in c/[email protected]

  1. In my experience, many of the people claiming to be experts on reddit are spreading misinformation. This goes for Twitter too, and probably most other large social media sites. People love to be seen as an authority on a topic.
  2. Reddit is anything but organic, and is getting worse and worse in this regard.
Trying to avoid US elections content as a non-US citizen. Is this possible on the default Lemmy-UI? I prefer it over Tesseract and Voyager (which have built-in keyword filters) in c/[email protected]

I block politics subs and have never had an issue with lemmy.ml. All the issues I see are related to politics.

You should use archive.org or archive.today links.

The best way to influence the Domain Authority metric is to improve your site’s overall SEO health, with a particular focus on the quality and quantity of external links pointing to your site.

You can use the Wayback machine addon to easily get archived links https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/wayback-machine_new/.

And a bookmarklet for archive.today:

Lemmy needs better integration/federation. Too much content is hidden. A community on the biggest instance was not visible to me on another large instance. (sh.itjust.works)
 

I did a search from shitjustworks for "reddit die" and did not find https://lemmy.world/c/watchredditdie so I made https://sh.itjust.works/c/watchredditdie (unnecessarily). This should really not happen. When someone makes a community there should be a "ping" sent out to notify all other federated instances.

And from what I know, if I post to !sh.itjust.works/c/watchredditdie only users on sh.itjust.works will see the posts until other people from other instances randomly come across it somehow and subscribe? This really needs to be improved.

I saw some weird pro-reddit content on other reddit-themed communities and then [email protected] went into archive mode, so I decided to make this to keep it clean from any reddit shills lurking in the dark. I'll start by posting some historical content.

By the way, anyone know what might be the most anti-reddit lemmy instance? I'd hate to find out that shitjustworks likes reddit and doesn't want a "watch reddit die" community on their instance.

Moving to the fediverse

Hi guys, are you familiar with the fediverse? It's an open-source reddit-alternative that is owned and run by no one. So it doesn't suffer from the threat of a single hostile entity making drastic, unwanted changes, as we recently saw with reddit, resulting in the side-wide protests.

It would be great to have your subreddit join the fediverse! If you do, I would suggest not using lemmy.world, as it's already the largest instance and it's better to spread things out so no one has too much control.

Once you make a community on Lemmy you could sticky a post in your sub to let your community know, and/or create an automod sticky in each thread.

I was homeschooled previously with a small group of other children and we fart in class all the time.

Now I'm in public school for high school and no one is farting. I was very sheltered and public school is like a whole new world for me, so I don't know what the norms are. I've been holding it in but my stomach hurts and it leaks out anyway.

I don't understand how there are so many more people in high school and yet zero farts...
