I wasn't able to do that even, Firefox with HSTS is dumb and goes against user freedom by failing to give a meaningful bypass method. Though I was able to get around it.

FYI people won't tell you how to disable HSTS enforcement, just delete the contents of the file SiteSecurityServiceState.txt then set permissions of it to read only and owned by root for good measure. Then the unbypassable warnings are able to be bypassed same as any other http warning on an https site.

Just checked my SDF Inbox and noticed a message from them:

Hello and thank you for using lemmy.sdf.org!

There has been a recent uptick in new sign ups, so we'd like to get in touch and welcome you as well as provide updates to existing members.

Currently, the lemmy instance is running v0.18.5 and we're watching 0.19.x beta efforts. We do have testing on a smaller instance and once there is a formal release, we plan to upgrade lemmy.sdf.org

For those who have set up 2FA there has been a reported issue where a user can get "locked out" from their account. If you are in this situation, please reply to this message from the email address you signed up with and we can get you reset.

During the Summer there was a large "reddit exodus" and lots of folks signed up with new instances. However, many of those instances have either have become ghost towns or have disappeared all together.

We want to assure you that lemmy.sdf.org as well as our regional instances are in for the long haul. SDF.ORG is celebrating 36 years as a non-commercial community resource this year.

If you have any issues or feedback, please get in touch and we'll help you out as soon as possible.

Thank you for using https://lemmy.sdf.org

Still seems very sudden to update the main instance to 0.19 considering there hasn't been a formal release and it is still very buggy as @[email protected] pointed out the Instance block feature isn't even functional, but more importantly almost none of the Apps out there actually work with this version.

I recently noticed my app (liftoff) stopped working and also glitchy behavior from the site after the sudden upgrade to 0.19, is there any explanation or reason for the sudden upgrade, especially considering that 0.19 isn't exactly production ready (no official release from the devs).

Also broke the inbox on desktop, was showing empty for me even though it shows the notifications. I had to manually go to the thread to see this message (lucky I keep tabs open).

I agree that this unannounced upgrade is quite the shock to the system and also lemmy 0.19 hasn't even officially dropped yet so it seems kind of strange to update to it now.

The Liftoff app, very recently stopped working and wouldn't let me log back in. Checked the site and realized why.

Is this a bug related to updating to 0.19? I just noticed they did that and my account on the app immediately stopped working.

They learn how to program in a more efficient way that makes better use of limited memory and CPU cycles. Which frankly is something modern programmers and game designers could very much benefit from considering how bloated and unoptimized much of modern software is, probably because they didn't need to think about whether computers can actually run it.

As far as I can tell Instance rules are basically don't do anything illegal and don't be an asshole. Each community has their own rules as well.

This is the US Server, the EU server is at lemmy.sdfeu.org.

I can't seem to reproduce this bug on Firefox, maybe it's a chrome(ium) thing or it's caused by a script or plugin.

Funnily enough I have to hide terminal windows when updating while I'm around any of my less tech savy friends who think it's scary or creepy. I really dislike them portraying this as "hacking".

I wouldn't use a Fairphone ever since I do find the headphone jack necessary but also I find their reasoning very slimy and manipulative. They claimed they removed it to reduce waste (I don't see how taking people's options away does that at all, seems like BS) but it happened right before they started selling Bluetooth airbuds, which ironically aren't repairable since the battery can't be replaced nondestructively.

So in essence they're claiming environmental sustainability but really it's likely they're just saying that so they can line their pockets and sell more of their Bluetooth earbuds, which I remind you can't really be repaired so they're garbage once the batteries in them wear out.
