I was going to argue that while season 7 was bad, it wasn't as bad as season 8. But then, I remembered how shit the Beyond the Wall episode was.

  1. They come up with the stupidest fucking idea of catching a wight. Jon Snow saw them at Hardhome. It was an insane number of dead people. How the fuck do they think they are going to trap something that is dead?
  2. Why the fuck are wights doing squad patrols throughout north of the wall? They're fucking dead. They don't need rest, food, or water. Just scatter wights throughout the area as lookouts.
  3. Why in the ever loving fuck are they sending the most important characters to go on a suicide mission?? I'm not even going to elaborate on that.
  4. We saw the entire party leave the Wall and walk around searching for wights. When they get to that little island and start fighting them, all of a sudden, there are all these unnamed characters showing up just to die. Where the fuck did they come from‽
  5. They send a kid that grew up entirely in King's Landing on an unarmed marathon to get help. The kid, malnourished, dehydrated af, and alone, covers a distance that took them days to travel. Once there, they send a raven to cover half the distance of the entire island to get Danerys to fly to find them. Except Danerys has never been north of the Wall. How the fuck does she know where she is going??

I gotta stop. This is just too stupid.

I see USA, Hungary, and Poland up there pretty high. I wonder if Russia has anything to do with that.

The first person to be the 28th President

I saw a video online by an "ex" CIA agent saying that the way the US spies on its citizens isn't through shady espionage like wire tapping and private investigators. The FBI merely goes to info corporations like Google, AT&T, Facebook, etc. and buys the user's information. I think that was an underlying goal of Musk's. He wanted the user info on people that were using Twitter for political purposes worldwide. The value of Twitter wasn't just it's monetary value, but the power that came with owning that information.

I think part of the joke is that it seems to me that some people think that even if someone is in a committed romantic relationship, it's okay to sleep with others until they're married because a committed romantic relationship is not official; it's informal. In other words, it's only cheating if they're married. Otherwise, it's fair game because it's not official.

Why does this person have a gun out??

I can understand when the topic is comparison, but my experience is that it seems that more often than not, the comparison is made even when not part of the topic. It could be some horrible news of a tragedy that occurred in the US, and rather than discuss the matter at hand, the comments are about how Europe is better. Of course they don't do that with other countries like Brazil, India, or Mexico. That's the point of the comment: to point out how ridiculous it would be, especially when a lot of the issues in those countries could be traced back to European colonization. But, since the US is a powerhouse with GDP, military, media, and global political power, everyone thinks it's okay to shit on it. I'd like to point out that the GDP stays at the top. Arguably, the quality of life of the average EU resident is better than the average American resident. Y'all tell us everyday with your medical systems and healthcare access, workers rights, time off, gun control, etc.

If American culture constantly has a delusional state of superiority, then why are the comments on Lemmy about how the EU is superior? Let's compare the number of comments on Lemmy in which Americans state or imply their superiority to Europe with vice versa. I bet that ratio will easily surpass 1:10. And the American one will more likely than not be downvoted to hell. Yeah, there are Americans and American media that are delusional about their superiority, but that is not the case with Lemmy users. In general, those are conservatives/Republicans and some moderates. Europe has those clowns too. American users on Lemmy tend to be quite left, desire strong leftist policies, and acknowledge the reality of the situation while being humble af, yet they are the ones that have to read all the shit talking about Americans every day on here. It's annoying af; that's all.

edit: Btw, despite that everyone may disagree with me, justifiably or not, I appreciate the opportunity to have this discussion.

Why would a Russian jet do that?

those states are violating the law and betting the Fed Govt won't intervene.

How likely or close are we to another pandemic? What would be the most likely government responses?

I've seen videos on it from leading YouTubers. They do a good job at covering the maneuverability of it, but they don't explain enough of the electronics to satisfy my appetite. I understand that it's is great at electronic warfare due to advanced processing power from advanced chips. What are they doing with all that electronic power, running an LLM chat bot to deceive the enemy in their own language and ray tracing graphics on the helmet HUD?

There is an extension/add-on for Firefox called Video Download Helper that lets users download embedded videos from all sorts of websites. While it works as a simple Firefox add-on sometimes, for a remarkable portion of sites (e.g. on Vimeo) it says that it cannot do so as installed and states that the user has to install the companion app to their computer. Does anyone know if this is safe or is installing it placing myself in any risk? If you suggest against installing the companion app, do you have any other recommendations on how to download videos embedded videos from websites?

Edit: I'm on a Debian-derivative distro.

In other words, is there any individual cell that can decide between two or more options, or all they all solely chemical and mechanical reactions without any self-determination at all?

Referee, umpire, official, judge, etc. Why are there different names rather than just one?

edit: by request, stewards also.

Ok, the title was an overuse of emojis as a joke. But seriously, I like some limited use of emojis because it helps me convey intention/emotion so that I'm less misunderstood and also adds some more feeling/fun to text content 😄

Car insurance is relatively simple. I shop around, telling them how much coverage I want. They request my driving history, and give me a quote. At any time, I can shop around and change insurance policies without any problems. Once it's time to collect payment, it's a relatively simple matter. What makes health insurance so difficult, controlling, unreliable, and expensive? For example, with health insurance:

  • Can only shop during a specific enrollment period

  • Policies are so complex, the vast majority of the population can't understand them

  • It's commonly provided in part by the employer because buying a policy otherwise is prohibitively expensive

  • Insurance companies are notorious for denying payments

It's basically the same thing, but out of the other end of the GI tract 👌💦💩

I'm asking because as a light-skinned male, I always use the standard Simpsons yellow. I don't really see other light-skinned people using an emoji that matches their skin tone, but often do see people of color use them. Maybe white people don't naturally realize a need to be explicit with emoji skin-tone or perhaps it's seen as implicitly identifying or requesting white privilege.

  • Is there a significance to using skin-tone emojis, and if so, what is it?

  • Assuming there might be a racial movement attached to the first question, how does my use of emojis, both Simpsons yellow and light-skin, interact with or contribute to that?

Note: I am an autistic white Latino-American cis-gendered man that aims to be socially just.

How was this show made

Say there's a forest, but there's a small cleared area where a family can build a place to live. What's the geographical term for that?

Edit: The word I was looking for was a clearing. A glen was suggested as well, but that is a space between rolling hills, while the space I was thinking of was on flat land.

Thank you everyone!
