Completely so nobody ever does it? No, there is no way. Though I think the goal is set more realistically like that to make it inconvenient and push it out of the mainstream as much as they can, which seems to be going alright.

I don’t have a car or family so I always hire someone as well, though you gotta be careful, around where I am scammers exist.

A reputable company you can tell by that they send someone over looking at all your stuff and details where you are moving to and then give you a quote. Which you can then accept or not and will not suddenly change. They also give you boxes in advance usually and if they destroy anything you get paid by their insurance.

Scammers instead come take all your stuff and then hold it hostage until you pay overpriced amounts. They are found at the Google Ads, luckily it didn‘t happen to me, but I know someone so I am extra careful.

I always take a move as a chance to rid myself of some burdens too, cause the more stuff you have to transport the more expensive.

I‘ve got one account on lemmy.ml and connect to beehaw through that but one of the first posts I saw there was a discussion on defederating from it cause the mods are tankies. It reminds me of Reddit already haha.

But yeah good advice, seems like choosing main instance is an important part of what experience one has in the fediverse.

True, I actually got dinged from automods using this word "kill" in various context for example one I remember well: "The Iranian government is killing people and wondering why they fight back?!" And DING I get whacked by the automod for using a bad word. I mean I don‘t mind moderation, but that was so weird I had to self censor myself like "The Iranian government is acting in ways that end people‘s lives and wondering why they fight back?!" to get my comment posted. What a pain. I get not advocating for violence, but the robots didn‘t check for any of that lol.

I‘m glad to have you too, the Reddit behaviour was making me nauseous and I was worried I couldn‘t find a good community to replace it. Then I discovered this instance and explored Lemmy a bit further, made some more accounts elsewhere and jumped around and it’s NICE! So excited to be here.

I have been wondering if I could use the GDPR like a bludgeon to get them to remove my shit for real, but it seems like a lot of trouble to go through when my comments were overall just random thoughts that popped into my head and nothing useful.
