That's reassuring to hear. Thank you for that :)

How's your new car experience been compared to previously owning used cars?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago (2 children)

We ended up purchasing a new car (I know it doesn't make the best financial sense, but oh well) and the dealers advised it will be ready for pickup early next week (it's just come off the ship), and they're asking for payment by tomorrow, which they are obviously doing so that they can get this sale in for the month.

Given that it's a brand new car (with all the warranties etc) and that it's due in a few business days, and that they are a very large dealership (and they've been decent to deal with so I wouldn't be against helping them to get the sale in this month), is there any reason I shouldn't? - never purchased a new car before.

Lol I didn't even see this until much later. Seems pretty confident if anything. Brings some nice excitement especially to the middle of the pack

Hopefully Liam doesn't go too all in on those types of antics. But he does seem to be pretty exciting so far

I may be a bit biased as I'm a New Zealander, but Perez seemed extra sensitive on the radio and the post race interviews around Liam.

As a Kiwi, it was good to see Liam Lawson show some pace, especially during the early to middle part of the race. Hopefully he gets a permanent seat at the end of the year 🤞

We've got a couple of hue lights inside the house and we're always wanting to expand the collection but they're so bloody expensive.

Seems like there's a few different options that I've seen online that'll work with Hue and Zigbee, but haven't done enough research to know what's best.

Yeah we've cut down on the number of different types we've planted. Gone for the ones we actually like and the good growers from last year.

We weren't gonna do tomatoes this year either, but then decided to give the grafted ones a go. Fingers crossed 🤞

It's great to have the NBA on again

We planted a bunch of lettuce, some chilli's, eggplants, cherry tomatoes, zucchinis and a few different herbs.

Oh nice. Sounds like you guys are growing quite a bit of food!

Planted the vege garden over the weekend. Took in some learnings from last year, so here's hoping to a good harvest this year :)

Haha. I did this a couple of times recently, but there's just a few that seem to be very sturdy and a really nice size that I can't seem to pull the trigger on

I am able to change the post sorting on communities that I am subscribed to, but I can't seem to do so on communities that I am not subscribed to.

"The Reserve Bank stuck to the script and left the official cash rate unchanged at 5.5 percent, confirming an end to its 21-month tightening campaign"...

"It said inflation, currently at an annual rate of 6.7 percent, was expected to keep falling as would inflation expectations, with a slowing global economy, an easing in supply chain disruptions, cooler labour and housing markets"...

"It estimated that inflation would be back in the target band in the second half of 2024"...

"We don't expect OCR cuts until May next year, give or take"

I was looking into getting a Window Cleaner to make cleaning windows a bit easier and quicker, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Karcher WV 6 Plus?

The reviews online seem to be pretty good, but wanted some first hand insight :)

I was thinking about being able to set your default post order independently between the 3 different communities - "All", "Subscribed" & "Local".

I've found in the bigger communities like All and Subbed, I like sorting by "Top 12hrs or Top day" but in my smaller local community, that means it shows me less than 10 posts. I'm always finding myself having to switch between different sorts as I move through the 3

The Te Huia train has been temporarily banned from operating in Auckland following two incidents.

In a statement, Waka Kotahi said it had issued the prohibition notice to KiwiRail, preventing Te Huia passenger rail service from entering the Auckland metro area because of recent Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) incidents.

The notice meant Te Huia's route, which usually ended at The Strand in Parnell, would terminate at Papakura from this afternoon.

Buses would replace the trains within the Auckland metro area.

Waka Kotahi said two SPAD incidents had been reported by KiwiRail involving Te Huia this year as it travelled between Hamilton and Auckland.

"A SPAD A event is defined as an incident when the train driver has failed to obey a red signal and has entered a section of track where there is the potential for conflict with another rail service.

We're currently shopping around for some Insurance (House & Contents), and are trying to decide going direct with someone like ANZ (Underwritten by Vero), or using a Broker (Have received some quotes by Rothsbury, as they seemed to be quite widely recommended).

I'm finding prices similar, but ANZ definitely seems cheaper overall.

I had heard that getting insurance through a broker is better, as come time to put through a claim, they will help you through the process, and get paid out faster. Is this really the case?, and so making it worth the higher costs (few hundred more).

Waka Kotahi monitoring Auckland Harbour bridge

Waka Kotahi says it is closely monitoring the Auckland Harbour Bridge and that it could close if wind gusts exceed 90km/h.

The Harbour Bridge has been placed under a red alert from midday until 9pm tonight, with wind gusts between 90 and 110km/h forecast.

Waka Kotahi says it's working closely with MetService to monitor the wind speeds, with maintenance crews ready to react when wind gusts exceed the threshold.

It's asking drivers of high vehicles and motorcyclists to avoid the bridge and use State HIghway 16 and 18 instead.

I just started using Lemmy today as I was previously using Apollo.

Do we see Session Threads (or even Weekend Threads?) being created on here?

We've recently purchased a house that was built in 1982, as a Multi Dwelling Unit.

The plans show that the Intertenancy wall is built as a Firestop Wall, and is made of 200mm thick Masonry Blocks (Vibrapac), 50mm Strapping on top of the blocks, with Batts, and topped off with 9.5mm Gib (on both sides of the wall).

I was wondering what peoples experiences were with this type of wall from this era in terms of Noise Isolation? Concerned with not only sounds coming from the neighbors, but also sending any noise their way.

We are planning on adding an extra layer of 13mm Noiseline Gib once we move in.
