I would suggest trying out as many types as you can get your hands on, literally, before you buy any, because hand sizes and finger lengths differ wildly.

The one thing keyboards can't modify is the columnar stagger which, at least for me who seems to apparently have a very short pinky, makes all the difference.

So I ended up doing exactly what I didn't want to do when I started a similar journey to yours - I learned how to solder, modify 3d models, and built my own. And, frankly, I think I'm not done, because there are still so many things to learn and get right.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now that is quite interesting..

 

Since the reddit community is now private, I want to ask this question again here :) The encoders intrigue me but I just lack the imagination to figure out how to use them for anything else but volume control..

That's one great looking keyboard there! How did you smooth out the geometry? Looks like you started off with the usual blocky open scad design.. and please don't tell me you did that in fusion 360. I tried so many times to make it run on my Linux box and so far failed..
