I wanted kids when I was younger, but wasn't ready to give up my freedom. Once I was ready for kids the world (and the future in particular) looks so bleak that it doesn't seem fair to the theoretical kiddo to say 'hey, here's a dumpster fire - good luck'. Instead I babysit for my friends and family, spoil the kids around me, and sleep in on the weekend. I also have more time for activism and trying to ensure a brighter future for kiddos.

No regrets.

Honestly, it sounds like you have checked out of the relationship.

If you actually want to rebuild, I strongly recommend finding a counsellor who works for both of you and can help you establish productive communication.

It's cliche, but right now you are 'Me' focused. You need to be 'We' focused.

Information is limited - and likely to remain that way given the recalcitrance of police when it comes to their own.

Right now all of the news outlets are running the same wire service article, but hopefully a journalist digs in farther.

Not sure I'd call a big enduro sled 'micromobility' - and I say that as someone who has two enduro bikes. They are just about the worst possible bikes for urban use - and urban use is about the worst possible use of this bike. The Vala wants to be pointed down the sort of steep lines you couldn't descend on foot.

Beautiful bike (if overpriced) though.

The Calgary Police Service wants to divert $13M intended for supports for people who are unhoused and/or struggling with mental health in order to pay for a new shooting range whose budget has gone up 130% in just one year.

Description was added after my original post and I agree it's bad (looks like AI generated drek). That said, the video is good and worth a watch.

Well thanks for that - it's solid discussion!

Is there a reason this is being down voted so much? I've only watched the first few minutes and I was actually surprised I hadn't come across this channel before.

According to the article, this is the seventh death of a First Nations person in police custody in the last three weeks.

Officer accessed police databases over 100 times in order to further inappropriate relationships with vulnerable women - including showing up at the home of a 19 year old whose father was just murdered.

There's a difference between defending oneself and engaging in collective punishment and genocide. I am Jewish and the descendent of holocaust survivors. Not in my name.

I went to your Lemmy profile, nothing there.

Thanks for providing the link - but I think that you should have posted it here instead of responding with derision.

I'm assuming you meant to include an image here?

I live through the smoke every year, and have had to retrofit a ton of of air filters into my home. Believe me, I know - I live and play in the areas that are burning. But someone asking for a reference is a GOOD thing and responding dismissively doesn't sway people to better understand, it turns them off of your message.

I don't see any of the pinned posts in your post or comment history. While I agree on the urgency of addressing climate change and agree that we need to substantially increase the speed of our deployment of renewables, it's completely reasonable for someone to ask for sources.

We need MORE fact checking, not less. When someone asks me for sources, I'm THRILLED to share with them, because that is someone who is interested and thinking critically. It's someone I can have a dialogue with.

Nicely done! Did you wind in the barrel adjusters at the same time? I find barrel adjusters let me really maximize my procrastination ;)

So glad tax payers have been paying the salary for this officer for over two years. My read from the article is that we are STILL paying his salary despite him being convicted on 15 counts.

Fantastic comment. Only item I might disagree on is bearings IF the bike has cartridge bearings as those are easy to work with. If it's cup and cone/loose ball then yea, I'd recommend just letting the shop do it only because cone wrenches are a pretty specific tool.

Lots of bike shops (especially community bike shops) offer inexpensive courses on bike maintenance which are a great option for learning.

We just took in a rescue litter from the shelter. Everyone has colds, and mom is pretty battle-worn (limping, lost a chunk of her ear to frostbite over the winter). Everyone is getting medical support and once they are old enough, we'll find these teeny terrors forever homes!

Right now, despite being 'ferral', Mom likes to curl up next to me while she nurses - it's pretty heart melting.
