I just ordered an dreamcast on eBay and eventually want to get CRT monitor to try out the VGA as well as I have an OSSC which has VGA inputs.

Was originally thinking of getting the official VGA box until I saw the compassion video of the crushing black.

8BitMods Aims to Reignite Dreamcast Memories with the "MemCard Pro" VMU

News has broken that 8BitMods, known for its top-notch memory card solutions for classic consoles, has its sights set on bringing a new era to Sega's Dreamcast. This latest project could transform the way Dreamcast enthusiasts store their game saves with the innovative 'MemCard Pro' VMU.

  • Innovation and Expectations 8BitMods is renowned for revitalizing storage solutions for classic consoles such as the PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, and GameCube. This time, they're targeting Sega's iconic Dreamcast VMU, which has previously seen the innovative VM2 on IndieGogo.

  • Reviving Past Glory Imagine accessing your game saves with buttons specifically designed to mimic those of the Dreamcast's original Visual Memory Unit (VMU). Such a feature promises not only convenience but also adds to the nostalgic charm, bridging the gap between past and present gaming experiences. It's a perfect blend of modern functionality with retro flair.

Are you eagerly awaiting this 'MemCard Pro' VMU or do you think there are better ways to improve on Sega's original VMU?

EDIT: Corrected language regarding previous VMU projects.

"Leading up to the launch of the Sega Dreamcast, in 1998 Microsoft and Sega announced that the up-and-coming Dreamcast would use Windows CE - an embedded version of the Windows Operating system for smaller portable devices. However, when the Dreamcast launched, all 18 titles did not use Windows CE at all. This was a very strange pivot, and many wondered what had occurred. In today's episode we take a closer look at Windows CE on the Dreamcast and what ultimately led to its decision to make it available only as a secondary option for developers to use..."

Do you remember the promise of Windows CE on the Dreamcast? Were you disappointed when it didn't become a reality?

The team behind the SuperSega FPGA console has recently demonstrated its innovative work, showcasing the Dreamcast core. In a captivating video available at this link, they've featured games such as Crazy Taxi, Gunbird 2 and Super Street Fighter II running well.

Developed using the Virtex Ultrascale+ FPGA chip, this core boasts an impressive capability of having "100K-200K logic cells" to emulate Dreamcast behavior. The console can also play Master System, Mega Drive/Genesis, Saturn, and Sega CD games. It's expected to be completed later this year, promising to offer a one-stop solution for gamers looking to experience classic Sega titles.

What are your thoughts on the development and potential impact of using FPGA in gaming consoles like SuperSega?
