It depends on which user and their workflow. For example, Graphics Designer use Photoshop compare to GIMP because of native CMYK for printing as well as non-destructive effects. Most people will be fine using GIMP.

I bring this up as I tend to see people on Lemmy and even in online space that talks about open source that would bitch about "normies" being too stubborn for not trying Linux or any open-source projects in general but never think about how much compromise they had to do if they do go down the open-source route.

I just ordered an dreamcast on eBay and eventually want to get CRT monitor to try out the VGA as well as I have an OSSC which has VGA inputs.

Was originally thinking of getting the official VGA box until I saw the compassion video of the crushing black.

I'm planning to soon get the RetroTINK 5x to play both PS2 and GameCube which I may get the component switch-box to switch input without having to unplug and plug the input again. For that, I need to get an regular component cable which I was wondering if cheap ones would do or if I should try find a specific cable to get best image quality.

I swear, he is a fever dream

I know this is a double-edge sword and I can see why some would disagree on this but I mean it's a 'unpopular opinion' so I going to say it anyway

For me, I found discussing about one on the Fediverse is lot like talking to the wall dispite having hashtags. I felt like I can't talk about my comfort-artist as much. Reasons why people still use Twitter dispite Elon Musk made it identical to Gab & Trust Soical is there's content creator and celebrity there which is easy to get updates from there.

In theory, I should be alright with Threads but not as excited as it has some moderating issue such as LibsOfTikTok known for spreading Transphobia and pushing the narrative that all trans people are groomers. If this wasn't made by big company like Facebook, Admins of various instances would defederated straight away until they take moderation seriously.

Better alternative would be making an instance which is primarily for music artist or well-known content creator so anyone who isn't fond of that culture can simply mute/block the instance and move on.

I meant like as in like leaving Twitter

It be difficult for not only the API is no longer free but also the user limit of amount of tweets being able to be seen each day. You're just better off scraping Twitter all together

s*x questions on askreddit

Hopefully with LemmyNSFW instance, people would asked there instead on AskLemmy.

But one of the things I'm hoping for is less mean-spirited userbase and the "I am very smart" user. Sadly, it's unavoidable as it's the Internet and even irl, people act like that.

Facebook have got data breach a few times which didn't stop majority of people still using it.

I don't really have the money to do self hosting which otherwise, I would do it.

The sort of videos I will make is

  • Let's Play / Gameplay Footage
  • How To
  • Vent video

If possible, I would want the instance to be LGBTQ+ friendly

Tomb Raider on PlayStation is what I say is way ahead of it's time which I think not many people give the game credit for.

It is one of the few early 3D games that nails the atmosphere and have tension. I always gets sense of adventure and I discovered part of the tomb by myself which I feel like modern games holds people's hand a little where it feels less fun and more I been told to do XYZ.

Also the way they did the water effect is impressive that they distort the texture UV postion I believe.

This one is a Metasearch engine but Searxng which can be self-hosted

I get he is a douche but can we try be much more productive with this migration from Reddit instead of doing "Imagine this..."

It helps nobody at all and all you going to get is more angry rather than actually getting anything at of it.

Generally, it been alright and has not too bad selection of topic/communities which most is more popular and broad so like anything that's more specific won't be there which I know overtime, it will have them so I'm forgiving on that front.

At first, it was hard to know which instance I want to make my account on. I knew roughly what is the Fediverse and how it works but I remember even when I was giving Mastodon a try that I was overwhelmed and wasn't sure which instance would be for me. Not sure what suggestion I can say to fix it but there is sight barrer.

I agree with Fwgx that Lemmy and also most (if not) all Fediverse app/services just talk little too much about it being self-hosting and all of that. I think some people on Fediverse forget that not everyone is into what I like to call 'DIY-Tech' and just more wants to see it as a service and what can THEY (the instance) bring to the table. This doesn't mean it shouldn't mention that you can self-host it but maybe shouldn't be too much of a priority. Maybe at least have some sort of tutorial or official guide as well as otherwise, I am pretty much on my own which sometime I can solve and learn from it but other people may just get annoyed and give up too easily. They will not know there's account and even website that is a guide to the Fediverse and it only if someone on their timeline or where they followed/subscribe from that they would know those exist.

I think once the Fediverse services/instance prioritized being user-friendly as well as explain how it works without going too technical that may scare some people away, I can see it grow much bigger and I really hope so as I been enjoying it despite some drawback.

You don't had to but I say it never hurts to least have another backup account but on a different instance.

I'm not sure if there is news for music so I thought I might as well as set it up if there isn't any.
