Please don't post about US Politics.
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either [email protected] or [email protected].
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email [email protected]. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

It's just so dry on here. So far I check in every so often just to see what's up but you can never shake the fact that Reddit has the reach and the history. Sadly I still suffer the Reddit mobile experience here and there, but I mostly just use other apps now. Lemmy just isn't close yet and the whole decentralized thing is beyond confusing for new users, I hate how many accounts I need to create.
Plus the delay to the content is huge, it's like 2 days behind the freshest news articles and discussions and stuff, and the meme content is super dated
You only need to create one account though, maybe two for backup. Federation means you can sub and post to communities on other instances.
Theoretically, yes the intention of the design is to only need to create one account on one server though there are reasons why you'll end up needing to create more than one, such as defederation, Community banning, and also, what I found is much more common than the two, problems with federating (some servers have slow sync or fail to sync posts and comments properly).
So yes federation comes with the intention of not needing to create more than one account, but it doesn't really work out like that in practice.
Imo it heavily depends on the instance you are choosing. If it's one with a capable admin (team), reasonable user count and mostly hands-off moderation rules then you're probably fine with just this one account. But ofc finding the right instance can be tricky. I only moved once from LW, and for now I'm pretty happy with my new home instance.
I've had federation issues with certain instances like sh.itjust.works and pawb.social where comments and posts appear on one of them but wont on lemmy.world (it's also very problematic with Kbin communities), never really figured out how to fix it either, I'm not sure how common it is across other Instances though, but as far as I can tell there's not really much that can be done about them.
