"Well you see, if Germany had just..."

All this Argentina nazi thing feels like a psi op from the americans to distract from the fact they took in much more nazis and incorporated them into government. (Non argentinian btw).

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago

Not entirely. The concept of Germans escaping to Argentina is real, ranking party members and leaders would hide with the help of the Catholic church and make their way to neutral Spain, then take a boat to Argentina which accepted Germans and their ideals plus helped them attain new identities and jobs in the country. Mossad hunted down and assassinated many high ranking Nazis in Argentina and Spain. Operation Paperclip specifically only took German scientists, and the Russians did the same. If you could not be taken under Paperclip, you went to Argentina.

'tut mir leid aber ich verstehe nur Bahnhof

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah I think it was called Operation Paperclip Garden or something like that, Axis scientists got snatched up by the Yanks and Reds and got to continue sciencing, I think one of them uploaded his brain into a couple hundred kilometers of storage tape

Thanks, now I can understand. I wouldn't know about US demographics, but stil... I've lived in Argentina for 95% of my life and never heard this thing until I emigrated to the EU. Truly, I can hardly think we have more Germans than the rest of latinoamerica... We ~~do~~did have lots of europeans that came in between, and around, both world wars. The majority are from Spain and Italy.

How long can he play until the neck hurt?

If It's me, I'll replace the chair with a reclining one, lap table for the keyboard and mouse. A massage chair would be nice.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I have been trying for years to figure out how I can get a screen on my face and a portable mouse and keyboard so I can work laying down.

They haven't made a vr desktop that doesn't make you puke yet afaik. I have tried ar glasses and they are close, but the pair I have are blurry. Either a manufacturing defect or I need glasses

If you're a Linux person, there's Simula and also Stardust.

I haven't tested either, despite having a Vive. Just never bothered.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Ooh these look neat, ty

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

You either buy the expensive prebuilt one (zero gravity chair or scorpion like gaming chair) or you could MacGyver it yourself using used kid hamster wheel from abandoned play ground near you.

Rokid air is incredible, highly recommend.

It's making me feel old in that he's referred to as great Grampa and not just Grampa.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I'm almost 50 and none of my grandparents had turned 20 when the war ended. So if this makes you feel old, you are, in fact, old.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It wasn't until after they all dies that I realised that all the model Spitfires and things my granddad had weren't from his memories of fighting in WW2. He was in school during WW2. He just liked model planes.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure my kids will one day ask me "dad, what were the 70s like?" and it'll dawn on me that my enthusiasm with 1970s progrock has depicted me as being far older than I am

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm not even 40 yet and my grandparents were in their 30s when the war ended. My parents had me when I was about my age now and similar for my grandparents for my parents.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, that makes sense then. But that's older than average.

Paradox have too many grand strategies. They need to make just one game that spans from 6000BC to 2500AD.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't think it is feasible to build one without a massive scope creeping. The grand strategies have very different focuses depending on the era.

Im a big fan of the purge the galaxy of xeno scum so my cute aliens can convert everyone to food as was ordained by dear leader. Long live the empire, least till the late game crisis unless you become the crisis.

Also planet crackers, the right way to create a neutral zone and mineral source.

He should be sitting further back, that’s just bad for your neck and can give you eye strain

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Are you winning, dad?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Pretty sure that's Europa Universalis 4, but it could be another Paradox grand strategy game. I'm just pretty sure that's EU4's user interface. If the humour is that it's supposed to be Nazi Germany, it would have to be hearts of Iron, and the German Empire would be named the "German Reich". EU4 takes place before the second world war.

Edit: Nevermind, it's Victoria 2, still before WW2, though.

A hearts of iron 4 enjoyer I see.

The goals of the Second Reich weren't actually that different from the Third. "Lebensraum" originated as a concept in the 1800s and Wilhelm even had plans for ethnically cleansing their African colonies.
